The definitive tyre / wheel size thread

The tires are 195/65/15. I am waiting to get the photo of the center part with the data from the customer, but it might take some time...

I'll be very surprised if those aren't the standard A3 pepperpot wheels. 6J ET38. The tyre size you quote was pretty much standard for the early A3.

As you can see below, the pepperpots come in two versions depending on colour.

OEM part number 8L0601025D has colour code Z33, which is burnished aluminium.

OEM part number 8L0601025E has colour code Z17, which is avus silver.

Avus silver is more popular than burnished aluminium.

OEM part number 8L0601165D is the hub cap, which is still available to order through Audi dealers.

Nope. OEM size is 175/60x15. That said, I know 185/65x15 on Pepperpots to have fitted without rubbing, albeit with speedo error and therefore not recommended. But I suspect 195/65x15 would be just too much and even if it did fit, the speedo reading would be even further out.

I’m running 195/65x15 CrossClimate tyres on our Pepperpots as that’s what they came with. They occasionally rub but usually when I’m 4 x up in the car….it’s a very nice & plush drive especially with all our truly terrible roads here in Glasgow! When these tyres die I’ll be going down to a 185/65 or similar.

I'm running 195/55 CrossClimates - the ride is reasonably compliant. Some of the roads around here in Cumbria and North Yorkshire are pretty poor as well.

I have the correct A2 Winter Size of 165 65 15 Tyres ( Vredestein Snowtrac ) on Standard Genuine Audi Steel Winter Wheels 5.5J x 15. Can’t say I notice any difference in Handling or Ride between when I have them on instead of the Standard 185 50 16 Tyres on SE Alloy Rims.

How did you check that it doesn't rub through the suspension travel? Those tyres are too big for small A2...

Confirm that 195/55/16 studded do not rub anything on full lock. Only driver myself inside.

Audi A1 rims with ET34

I am running on Hakkapeliitta 8:s in 215/45R16. My problem is that studded tyres are not available in this size anymore, not in any brands. I am already thinking what would be the next one, the only option seems to be the 195/50R16 Conti IceContact 3. The rim is 7" wide, ET 31 and I am not sure how the narrower tyre would fit it.

I thought that /55 is too big, however there would be way better selections in that size...

The 215/45 16 is the standard factory fit size for the 7J ET34 16" A1 Sport wheels but 205/50 16 also works really well on them on the A2.

It sounds like your wheels are from the mk1 TT being 7J and ET31 and the same 205/50 16 would be a perfect fit for those too, obviously if the tyres you require are available in that size?

195 is a little narrow on a 7J rim and looks a little stretched and also exposes the rims more to curbing.

Are they the 5 spoke Speedlines or 7 spoke Ronals you are running? 👍
