The definitive tyre / wheel size thread

Are they the 5 spoke Speedlines or 6 spoke Ronals you are running? 👍
I have the 7 spoke TT wheels. The problem is that there are no studded tyres in 205/50 or 205/45 neither, the one and only option is 195/50 in 16".

Confirm that 195/55/16 studded do not rub anything on full lock. Only driver myself inside.

195/55 16 is right on the limit size wise and will only work with wheels with a low ET, meaning they protrude outwards more than higher number ET wheels that sit further inside the arches.

I do fear that you may experience some fouling of the arches at some point either when fully loaded, going over speed bumps and on full lock. Usually its the front left tyre that fouls the inner wheel arch and the rear right that fouls that inner wheel arch liner too.

🤞 that hopefully you will be ok?

195/50 16 tyres certainly won't cause you any problems fouling wise, it's just whether you are happy with the slightly stretched look but ideally you would fit them to 6.5J wheels but they are ok for 6J or 7J wheels too 👍

I run 195/45R16 on 7J Audi A1 rims, a little stretch but not too bad.

PS: The awful curb rash happened with previous 215 tyres..

I will take the car for spin later and run a few speed bumps to see how much provocation it takes.

I am running on Hakkapeliitta 8:s in 215/45R16. My problem is that studded tyres are not available in this size anymore, not in any brands. I am already thinking what would be the next one, the only option seems to be the 195/50R16 Conti IceContact 3. The rim is 7" wide, ET 31 and I am not sure how the narrower tyre would fit it.

I thought that /55 is too big, however there would be way better selections in that size...
Yes there is way more selections in 55. But it is a tight fit, so if you have alot of passengers in your car, or your wheel arches gets packed with snow/ice, I would be careful.

195/50 on 7J is no problem, as you can see in above post I run 195/45 on 7J

Could also be ex A6 C6. Very poor advert. Do not understand those that want to sell an item and either give no, or vague information.

They are definitely a 5x112 stud pattern, so you will need to factor-in the cost of adapters. The minimum thickness for the adapters is 15 mm so those wheels need to have an ET (offset) of 45 or higher to be bring them down to a ET30 which is about as low as you want to go on an A2. I've currently got an ET 25 on the back of mine with a 7x16 inch wheel with 205 tyres and the edge of the tyre is flush with the edge of the wheel arch.

Message the seller and as for the ET number from the back of the alloy and come back to us.

They won't go straight on an A2 - I had a set as winter wheels for my Mk2 TT that I used to have. Definitely 112mm PCD so adapters will be needed, which I wouldn't recommend. Not particularly light wheels either from memory.

The Kouki guide is no longer active, are there any alternatives?

The calculated outside diameter of a tyre is simple maths.

Outside diameter of 195/55R15 tyre = 595.5mm
Calculations

Diameter of rim in millimetres = 15 x 25.4 = 381mm
Height of sidewall = 195 x 0.55 = 107.25mm
381mm + 107.25mm + 107.25mm = 595.5mm (Diameter of rim in millimetres + Height of sidewall + Height of sidewall)

Outside diameter of 205/40R17 tyre = 595.8mm
Calculations

Diameter of rim in millimetres = 17 x 25.4 = 431.8mm
Height of sidewall = 205 x 0.4 = 82mm
431.8mm + 82mm + 82mm = 595.8mm (Diameter of rim in millimetres + Height of sidewall + Height of sidewall)

Another vote: that 195/55/16 do not rub anything on full lock. (Only driver myself inside).

I have had all my 3 kids in the car, including having the Christmas tree on the roof-bars since this. No rubbing on rough farmers roads.

Going over speed bumps for the rear and turning on full steering lock for the front is the test 👍
