The Great Music and Hi-Fi thread.

If you can ever get hold of the "Esper Retirement edition" of Bladerunner soundtrack, it's an exquisite 5-disc, beautifully mastered bootleg. Definitely worth hunting down.
?

Thanks for that i'll keep a look out.

The film and soundtrack made such an impact i only went out and bought the Soundtrack album on Vinyl. I've still got it.

Search the world for Hi-fi gear

I've seen hifi shark before but only when googling a favourite speaker or something as it comes up in the search results. If you know something we don't know do tell, ? we're all still learning, i find ebay still the best source for finding a lot of stuff. Maybe i'm wrong ? perhaps there is somewhere else where elusive stuff lurks on the inter web snapp numpty as good old Andrew Neil likes to say.

One for Paul and anyone else interested in these little beauties that weighed a ton for a smallish monitor a pic of my mint pair of Concert 8's which went of to Australia.European speaker of the year in 2003 from memory?

And these beauties were my mid nineties MA 15,s and the pic i used for ebay when i sold them as i needed the money for an S6. I don't regret buying the S6 saloon but have regrets having to pass these on to afford it.?

The Jamo's look beautifully made, naturally the MA's look very classy indeed - I remember listening to the MA 15s at the time.

S6, quite a nice Q-car, I used to own a V6 bi-turbo S4 (B5), a very understated GT car.

Speakers are like cars, in that tyres are always getting better and make a car feel better and although amps at the time were good the 15's today with suitable amps could sing especially with a crossover mod.

Where and what partnered the 15's when you demmed them?

Love the B5 S4 and as you say very underrated as the top trump brigade overlook it, which is crazy as it's the car i would go for over the RS4 any day!

I think it was paired with Musical Fidelity A1(?) and Rega/RB250 - lovely big open sound.

Yes the S4 was far more subtle than the RS4 and more reliable too if I remember correctly.

Remember the A1 only 20 watts but a great sound with the added bonus you could fry an egg on top of it it ran that hot.
Pic i grabbed of the net.

I also have this baby from 1976

Elsewhere in the house I have a pair on Wharfedale Pacific EVO 20’s and a Sony TAF770 ES stereo amp from 1991

Bet that sounds nice i haven't even got an AV system.

I'm thinking the Pioneer was a good sounding deck in it's day and probably still is.

I'd always hankered after a Cyrus pre/amp/PSU setup, they just looked so cool and the electronics design was was clever too, I believe... I only ever managed to afford a pair of their mini monitors, the Cyrus 780s.

That MF A1 does look very smart though, sounded amazing but I didn't feel the heat emanating from it on demo...

A mate who lived in London used to run the Cyrus preamp PSU set up with a pair of Epos ES11 stndmounts. Souned very nice in the midrange but had no slam on them speakers. I have to agree the Cyrus shoe boxes as they were called looked unique and cool.

I got some B&W CDM special editions and I don’t rate them that much.
They lack bass and presence and my Technics SE-A 1010 & SE-A 1010 is such a warm sound.
Maybe they just don’t marry together.

See I did say the musical fidelity a1 was great entry amp and I give a big thumbs up to the Rega ?

I had one many moons ago and yes I missed it ..it’s not all about watts most of the valve Amps where low watts .to his I what I try to tell people you don’t have to spend big money I don’t know prices now but at one time these along with audio lab 8000 ..Cyrus ..nad you could pick up cheap .me and mate used to buy and sell to trade up trying out different combos .good fun ?

Rosewood B+W 804s with a quad 606, moth passive. They are crated up at the mo, need to get them back out. Forgot the value tbh, maybe sell them and buy a few A2s. :)

Like I said Jeremy, I have no less than 3 quad 2s plus spares, in varying states, which I must build up into 2 good ones. Never got round to it.

Kind of fallen out of the audio thing, one listen and I will be at it again!

I'm running an Audiolab 8000 cdm they're a superb transport £1.4k back in the late nineties but they can be bought now for around £400 in average condition needing a service? or at least that's what i paid for a mint one boxed 6 years ago. I've just had a look on ebay and it seams prices are on the up as this minter below sold for £700 on open auction. I would highly recommend one.

The system is out of action at the moment since my brother came round and demmed his AVI 150watt monblocks. I really thought they would be better sounding than the Quad 707, there was nothing in it but that the quad sounded more transparent and sweeter in the midrange with just as much welly down below. I'm just looking for some guru like Timmus on here to service the 707 as it's got a dodgy mains lead socket connection and do the latest possible upgraded components to release some more of the Quad magic.

I rewired the ring mains to the house 25 years ago so i put in a separate ring in for the hifi.

Just been listening to this on disc cogs well the first cd and it sounds superb. Sadly they don't have one which is a shame as i'm now desperate for a copy of this. Could you keep an eye open for me and let me know if anything turns up. How does it come as a 5 disc box set. Maybe you have a photo? Cheers Mark.
