Hi Tom,
I'd like this to be done and I've P.M.'d you. Can the screen of an RNSe be re-coated?

David

Hi,

Since the "starship mileage" TDI has Pixel problems, rather than replacing the DIS display I am thinking of fitting the Colour DIS instead (It seems to make sense to me)

I have one concern though, that is the age of the car, it is a 2001 and so will it be suitable for this conversion.
Two main reasons for the question is that
since this is a pre 2002 car it will have the smaller fuel
Since it is an early car will this actually work (due to the CAN differences?)

Forgive me if I am misunderstanding any of this, I am no expert in "Electrickery"
But looking at the instructions it does seem clear enough and I can use a soldering iron (I watched that TV series with Robson and Jerome - Solder Solder) (sorry for that dreadful joke).

I also realise that this job is MUCH better left to the experts, but I have never shied away from trying new things.

I would only ever do this for my own car, it takes someone with the skills and attention to detail of Timmus to do a reliable and safe job of this type of thing, for others.

that instruction set - I would not do this without a spare KI and I certainly wouldn't do it without anti-static precautions. That's the reason I asked someone else to replace the LEDs in my Cluster, or I would have done it myself (and I'm not unhappy about soldering 1x1mm pads with my various irons). To reiterate; the LEDs pictured in step 6 are 3.2 x 2.4mm in size.

Steve, the car you bought have a Dis so it must have a CAN bus.

Brett,

99% of those who installed a ColorMFA on their own or got it installed hadn't got a spare cluster. Search for "ColorMFA" at drive2.ru and you'll see for yourself.

I will. <10 Characters>

Vadzim (Bala_de_plata) and I are more or less in constant communications lately, over a Genuine Votex kit I sold him (still in transit to Germany) and a previously purchased "Votex style" spoiler he bought from me some time ago, (Now on his 1.6, I believe, after modifying his 1.6 spoiler to be able to take the new spoiler)
After a fair amount of work getting the spoiler up to the required quality it looks great on his A2.

He has proved to be a very trustworthy and helpful member and if I didn't already have one (provided by Vadzim) I would be the first to put my name down. (not yet fitted, Timmus has it on his "to do" list)

Thanks Vadzim.

The spoiler is off-topic here, but yes, it's worked)

I am interested in giving one of these a try in my 04 90bhp tdi, looks very modern, already have full dis.
The links all seem to go to Russian site, unfortunately I don't speak it! Is there a language button anywhere?

I think anyone coming across spare clusters from breakers may want to start stockpiling spares now...

pre-soldered swap-in and out retrofit kits anyone?

I fitted mine today, everything seems ok but I cannot get the NAV to display, I just get a green message in the cluster saying "NAVI" and no turn lists. Maybe I don't know how to select it yet or the function isn't there.

It's a very destructive process when installing, you basically destroy your old DIS installation and DIS Backlights (removal of 20 leds from the circuit). So if you get it wrong there is no way back without fitting a whole new DIS or cluster depending on how much damage you do.

I flashed the firmware also over USB to the latest beta for A2, it wasn't difficult to do

If DJ190 is still running around with the top two lines of his cluster broken then this is the ideal fix.

PS: Anyone know how I get the pics the right orientation

Hi Craig,

Looking great! Congrats!

You have to press and hold RESET button when you have NAVI displayed. Just hope and pr... err... wait:)

In order to get a charge air pressure value one needs to connect a wire from pin 71 of the ECU with a pin 32 of the gray socket on the back side of the cluster.

Good loo... erm... luck!:)
