The Welsh social - A jolly around the Welsh mountains

No worries, i wasn't sure of my car status at the time. Let's maintain the status quo. If it comes to pass that you are short ( even 18/19 A2s in convoy will be a sight to behold ) I may be able to step in as long as I'm still allowed due to my treachery :D

Are there still spaces available for this?

I've had a change of plans for that weekend so the wife and I would love to join you all. :)

If you promise to bring your camera then yes :)

I've limited it to 20 because some of the roads are narrow and the bar can only cater gor about 30 people, but I'm guessing that at least one member won't be able to make it on the day so you are very much welcome.

Only 10 days to go and I’m really looking forward to this now

Those confirmed as attending are:

being the 20 cars I've limited it to. Can I ask that if you are planning to turn up on the day and don’t have your name down, that you contact me via pm.

Trevorswaine? – Was a maybe, could you please confirm Trevor, hope the house hunting is going well.

The meeting point is Asda Superstore Merthyr Tydfil and the address is Dowlais Top, Merthyr Tydfil CF48 2YF. We will meet towards the entrance to the car park as there’s usually lots of space.

I would like it if everyone can aim to be there by 10am for a 10.30 start.

We'll then have a 10 minute or so journey on dual carriageway to the start of our more scenic route.

The whole drive from the meet up point to our end point should take no more than 80 minutes. A length of time I felt was neither too short nor too long. Depending on how we are progressing we may well stop 2/3rds of the way around for a break although there are no toilet facilities during the 80 minute journey so Asda at the start will be your best bet :)

Our end point and the location for our pub lunch will be The Nant Ddu Lodge.

They serve lunch until 2pm and usually only cater for up to 25 so have asked us to arrive around 12 to ensure that everyone is served. Their menu isn't the cheapest but its a lovely location and the only pub/restaurant in the area who can accommodate 20 A2's parking in their car park together. There is no obligation to eat but the facilities are there if you are hungry.

After everyone's had the opportunity to have something to eat, depending on the mood on the day there's the opportunity for us to move on to Cyfartha Castle Museum and Gardens for more group photo's and an opportunity to take in some local history.

I'll be bringing along some 2-way radios and a megaphone. Sarge has kindly volunteered to be the last car and Darren has offered to be midway so we can stay in radio communication if need be.

At the moment the forecast is due to be sunny so we couldn’t ask for more.

I already know and have become good friends with lots of those on the list but will be nice to see new faces as well.

If there's anything else anyone would like to know, please feel free to ask.

I'm so looking forward to this Steve - thank you so much for organising. My accent comes back quite quickly when I come 'home' which will be funny for those attending who are used to my Norfolk twang!
It will also be an opportunity to have a quick visit to my South Wales friends and see how Mabel is with her rebored cylinders and new head gasket!

Gutted that this fell on a holiday weekend It will be a sight to see a nice convoy and Welsh countryside. Have fun mike

Would have been nice to have you both there Mike, especially with all your experience. If it goes well I'll do another next year and try to time it around you.

Just got back from running the route again this morning (I'll be able to do it with my eyes shut next saturday).

What I did discover is that there is a village show in one of the small villages we pass through on the same day. It's a small afair but I would think we may have a 10 minute delay half way around for the extra traffic. Very happy wiyh the route though, I think we will have a great time.

Why don't we add it to the route, and stop off for afternoon tea or something?

IM so sweating on my car being back on the road in time. It was meant to take a week - that was a month ago!

Last week it was going to be that week. It is now midweek if all goes well. Its so annoying as its a garage I have used for many years and never had any problems whatsoever.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you Teresa. Don't they know you ahve a very important social event to attend ;-)

Right guys, although this social is hopefully going to be very relaxed, I don't think it will do any harm to ahve an itinary.

I've included satnav co-ordinates rather that providing maps on the day as I would imagine most people will be using a satnav to find your way to the start point.

Sarge, Darren C and myself will be ensuring nobody goes off track but the postcodes are there if needed.

So...

CF48 2YF - Meeting point at Asda superstore car park Merthyr Tydfil, on the left at entrance. 10am meet for a 10:30am start.

NP23 5EY - Start of B4059 mountain road.

NP8 1NL - Llangynidr

LD3 7YQ - Talybont-on-usk

CF48 2UF - Pontsticill

CF48 2HY - Midday stop at the Nant Ddu Lodge (for lunch and a get together) up to 2 hours

CF47 8PA - Then on to Cyfartha Castle museum and gardens. I'm hoping we'll get the space to get a good group shot infront of the castle.

Any questions before saturday please feel free to ask and if not see you saturday. Drive safe all :)
