Today I.....

Today I ordered from Mister Auto;

SKF ribbed belt and tensioner kit and a pair of front drop links - they seem to have much more choice of manufacturer than most of the other online suppliers.

Simon.

There maybe cash back available if you went to them through Quidco.

Just collected Project X from WOM Automotive - Many thanks to Marcus and Rob Womersley for all the sterling work they've done on her (and to Tom for the recommendation from both sides etc.)

Took her to the Polish for a polish, she scrubs up well really.

Now just need to spruce up the wheels.

One thing that did come from the trip home was how badly the suspension on Baby Boomer needs to be rebuilt :)

I was trying to setup a group shot, but the driveways full at the moment

Today I replaced the front droplinks - one was definitely shot but seemed sense to change both sides. During the course of the work discovered that the offside driveshaft nut was barely hand tight - despite that or perhaps because of it couldn't get the driveshaft out of the hub so will need to get a bigger hammer in order to change the CV boot :)

So often, it seems, that area of the car puts up a fight.

Looking very nice indeed! Brought back from the brink. Well done to all involved. Jeremy, you'll soon own more A2s than you've owned Sciroccos and Corrados if you keep this up!

That ain't gonna happen ;) However, it feels good to have rescued another vehicle from the brink. We helped VW Audi Driver with Red Baron many years ago now.

Audi A2's are alive and kicking in Jersey!

The A2 is alive and kicking in Jersey!
Surprised that Carole spotted this before me today on our little trip to St Aubin in Jersy, actually we spotted it twice the same day, tdi I think!
They drive on the left too if you weren't sure!
Cheers Jeff

Today I replaced the auxillary belt tensioner because the bearing had play and was a bit rough. Like others I found a 5/8ths socket fitted the cast 'nut' on the tensioner arm better than a 16mm. Work was all done from above - needed two intermediate locking spacers to lock the tensioner as the spring tension was released allowing me to repostion the ratchet before being able to engage the locking pin. There is minimal space between the ratchet head and the chassis so it's a fiddly job rather than being particularly difficult.

Took the old tensioner apart for interest and you can see why these parts are typically expensive when you look at the cone bearing face in the centre of the spring which is not straight forward to machine.

Oil and air filter change, in between showers. I really must do the fuel filter at some point...

Edit. That is, rain showers and not personal hygiene.

Today I tried a repair of the air filter housing. Some stainless m5 nuts seem to just fit to with some, persuasion of the hammer and air dryer. I also applied some 2 componen epoxy glue! Let's see if it works!

no guesses for what I have been doing over the weekend - the pictures tell the story

numerous scuffs and hold paint touch ups need sorting out, so also took the opportunity to colour code the black to the silver of the A2. Will also need to spray the sill covers and the trims at the bottom of the doors (do these come off the doors easily - I hope so)

I just like the look of the A2 without the black at the bottom of the car, personally I think it looks more modern without the black.

The bumpers and arches will be left to cure properly for a good few days, they are painted in two pack clear over base
