Today I.....

Thanks Spike,
I checked it but having problem with Russian site (language) and I'm aware that Timmus is offering a retrofit, but he's got other things for me ATM.

I fixed my handbrake warning light, after eventually removing all the handbrake plastic I spotted the switch had moved, so after repositioning, all was fine. Don't know how it had moved, the car as been stationary whilst I've been on hols. Glad it was an easy fix, tried for ages to remove the centre consoles, still no idea.

I was trying to upload a photo of my newly refurbished alloys but couldn't get it to load properly through the forum software or by hosting it on anotger site, so gave up. They look really nice, shame the photo uploader is so pants.

A2Steve's finished alloys

Picture upload for Steve; look really good and the flecks in the paint are popping - great job!

Direct to the site Steve - manipulating the photo size so it is within the 2mb limit.

This is the button to do so... fgf.png

Today i had the yellow storm in for its yearly MOT ----it failed ! i was shocked and something so small. It failed on headlight aim on the left hand unit, the adjuster seemed to do nothing. Once home i made a sun shade and aim board and set about sorting it out. i found the adjuster was doing nothing but after many turns 20-30 it finally moved the beam downward. Quick pop back to MOT man and it was all good to go-phew
With Audis In The Park just a week away i needed a pass. Cheers Mike

Today I changed the Cambelt on my sister in laws 1.4 petrol, it's exactly the same procedure as the FSI. The bottom pully bolt was stuck fast after 17 years (my impact gun struggled!) and the Cambelt was literally on its last legs, she's lucky it hadn't snapped!!!

Started her up and it ran, always a good thing when changing a Cambelt!!

Today I changed both front top mounts and the bottom ball joints. Started at 9am and finished at 6pm with a pause for lunch and it was a fight all the way;

Fought the brake reservoir bracket off the wing to get at the rhs mount fasteners.
Fought the rhs strut out of the upright - needed to turn the corners off a piece of hex bar in order to open the split up.
Fought the lhs strut out of the upright - the mount fasteners are easier to get to but the pinch bolt needed a lot of persuasion out of the upright.

All back together now - old top mounts were in a shocking state - very loose and rattly. Struts themselves looked good with no leaks so left them alone!

I did the same for a fell A2OC member a couple weekends ago. It is certainly not the nicest of jobs but you get a nice smug feeling when it doesn't clatter over every pot hole

What top mounts do you guys replace with? Am waiting for a set of fk front shocks to arrive so wanted to replace my old mounts. Anything else you need to replace while your at it?
Cheers

Meyle heavy duty (I may well have not spelt that correctly). They are on eBay and they include the 3 bolts for the top mount the bearing and the strut pinch bolt. They are the best that I have ever seen. Cheers

I went with SKF branded ones.
Other things you need might be tools;
7mm Allen key for the damper rod
I used a spark plug socket for the rod nut (has a hex)
A ratchet with a small head but long handle - there is very little space between the rear mont bolts and the bulkhead.
I used a britool 1/4 drive ratchet with a hinged handle and a long13mm socket.
The reservoir bracket also needs just the right length extension to undo so it's worth having a selection.
You need something to wedge open the strut clamp - this must be fitted at the bottom of the split.

Simon.
