Today I.....

agree with the 7mm allen key, this is a must and is a none std size
I used a ring spanner on the strut nut so I could stop the strut spindle spinning with the 7mm allen key
The FK struts use a 6mm allen key and the nut that FK provide is a larger across flats than the Audi nut, meaning than any spanners I had would not fit in the recess in the top mounts, simple solution was to re use the Audi nut (with some thread lock on it as well as the nyloc)
Personally I use a 3/8" air ratchet to remove the 3 top mount nuts, this makes the job soooooo much easier as space it VERY limited
I have an old flat screw driver that these days only gets used as a pry bar, this was just a perfect fit in the strut gap and a few blows with a hammer wedged the screwdrivers in the bottom of the strut gap to splay the strut housing, the strut then lifts out relatively easily when the wish bone is pulled down. Tip - suggest getting the strut out of the housing before you remove the 3 top mount bolts, but have the 3 bolts loose and some penetrating oil in the strut housing where the strut fits helps a lot

Spotted this A2 with "Colour Storm" wheel archers for sale. Was it possible to order A2's with black wheel archers, or is this done afterwards?
Not so usual colour combination exterior/interior.

The mileage is 302300km or 189000 miles. Yes I did it myself.
I had to make a tool for the gear linkage adjustment, and it's straight forward to do. Plenty of videos on YouTube.
The oil is fully Synthetic 75w80, recommended by my mechanic friend, Wolf brand.

I must add, the old oil was on a watery side of viscosity. I guess, when VAG said it was lubed for life, they did not think it would last for so long. My intention is to change it every 50k just to make sure it's ok.

I put the same oil in my MYP as I finished the transplant of the bell housing yesterday.

Decoded that black wheels are not my style and so I have fitted a set of 18" RS4 9 spoke sport alloys (Identical to the standard A2 Sport alloys but 18" instead of 17" and a little wider.

They fill the arches nicely.

I had to dig deep to buy a good set of tyres though, Yokohamas. But they will be worth it.

I usually buy cheap tyres (because A2s are not sports cars and they are quite light) but the one thing I don't like about cheap tyres is the noise they can produce.
On several occasions I have though that the front wheel bearings were noisy and I could even feel small vibrations when slowing down (not like warped disc vibrations, much smaller)
After a lot of time and checking I swapped wheels and the noise went away, it was the cheap tyres.

So this time I have bitten the bullet and bought quality.

I think they add a subtle difference to the car, many might not spot that they are not A2 Sport wheels, but I really do like the fact that they look OEM but fill the arches so nicely!!!

Parked next to it is the wife's new A2, it was our Daughter's car but has a reasonable spec and only done 80K.

A member has bought the silver one and also bought the black QT alloys.

They look great Steve,
and this is something I've thought about doing for a while too, what's the ride like on 18's in comparison to sport 17's and I take it no arch rubbing on full lock?
Cheers Jeff

Due to some random non start issue... Today I took the +ve and -ve cables off the starter motor and cleaned up all the terminals... I wish I had smaller hands the 1.4 Petrol has serious access issues around the starter.......However "A Blue" started 1st time.

Going to test for a low earth later, and more than likely add a new earth strap to the party for grins!

Thanks Tom. Fitted number plate surround as soon as I got home. Looks great. New plates to be ordered and more secure fittings and centralisation needed but very happy.

No rubbing at all from the front on full lock either.

The last time I fitted a set of these I had a tiny bit of rubbing when I had 4 people in the car and hit a speed bump, but a little bit of shaving sorted that out.
These fill the arches really nicely and still look OEM and so they are my favourite OEM style wheels.

The ride is absolutely fine and you wouldn't be able to tell if you were on 17s or 18s, especially with a good set of tyres and the right pressures. You also get the benefit of increase speedo accuracy!!

Today I entertained my neighbours and the Police by steadily dismantling all of the inside of my car (it felt like) for the pleasure of a warm bum, a camera that comes on with the ignition and less wires to my iPod.

Not finished and the car looks like this

Actually you can't see most of the devastation because the near side A and B pillars and footwell is 'naked' too!

What have I done to poor Hogarth?!?

Tom, fancy a day trip to Glasgow

Interesting colour combination too.Would never have thought to put black leather with twist cream but it looks like it really works. Mote photo's please.

That shows the quality of my camera I'm afraid - it's dark grey seats and platinum!

The photos are all pictures of what it looked like before I disembowelled him!

A police car pulled over to see what was happening about 11pm - probably thought I was the worst car thief ever!
