Today I.....

May give this a try as my fuel consumption is looking poor at the moment too. Air filter change and intercooler leak check on the list too.

I did try redex when i first got her on the road and did not make any noticable difference and after recently ultrasonicly cleaning another set of good used injectors , the amount of carbon and gunge that came out of the injectors was shocking to say the least

Not sure if it improved economy or not but a squirt of 2-stroke mixed with a tankful of diesel seems to make mine run more smoothly - apparently got to be a certain specification of 2-stroke though - it's here on the forum somewhere. Also a working thermostat has improved economy by about 10%. Best tankful yet gave 70.6mpg according to www.fuelly.com, not bad for 225,000 miles.

I am getting nothing like that 55-60 t best usually.

What size tyres ? what gearbox and what usual motorway speed ?
I have 175x60x15, long top gear 70-80% motorway use at about 65mph cruising speed. Congested motorways improve mpg as long as no stop and start. If I get less than 70mpg I will be in shock.

I’ve got 185/50 R16s at the moment but looking to move to 205/50 or 205/55 on new TT 16 alloys. Standard 5 speed TDI. I’d love the 6 speed but tooooooo skint.

Cluttering up the 'today' thread - is there a separate thread describing the moly purge in more detail?

I bought this as spares, repair project... £200 , back in august .

The list of repairs as follows.

New mintex front discs and pads.

Well in this case Tomorrow I ....... Hand over my lovely TDI 90 to its new owner.

I will be very sad to see it go but it will enable me to afford my "Project Violet".

I am really looking forward to the challenge of bringing an A2 up to its original standard, a first for me (with an A2 at least)

I have a busy Thursday and Friday too, but more on that on my new project thread.

Hi Stevie
All sounds Brill however regarding the battery, make sure there is not a low drain that will affect a new battery too in due course. The TDI batteries tend to last about 10 years, often more. I found I was needing a bat every 2-3 years due to a small drain of about 250mA. The battery does not like going flat/ish, (you would not necessarily notice if you use the car regularly) and then rapid recharge by alternator. From memory normal drain should be under 100mA. Two likely causes would be CCU unit or window motor assembly.
Good luck with it

Hi Martin.

My car is a 1.4 petrol. Dont know if that makes a difference . When i got the new battery all was good for 3-4 days then it was flat , no dash lights , central locking ect. ???

Local garage has checked the for the usual drain problems but cant find the source.

Is it worth buying a used CCU unit and swap them over ....

Cheers
