Today I.....

Father Christmas delivered our post today followed later by box from A2Steve (thanks) delivered by either Joesph or a shepherd, don't know how to tell which. Anyway second biblical character says "every time I come by I look more and more at your A2, getting very interested". I was serving lunch with little time to chat but directed him here, hi Joeseph! or shepherd! - (did the shepherds have names?).

Afternoon all,

Project OEM has just gone through its first MOT in my ownership. After all the Lockdown pampering it’s had it passed with not 1 advisory. Very happy indeed!

Kind regards,

Tom

Happy days. Not unexpected for A2. My mot man as never found anything and complements me every time i take it. Asked the apprentice once how old he thought the car was from underneath and his comment was why was a less than 3year old car being mot’ed. I was chuffed with that

Today (last night actually) I booked a slot to drive around Silverstone (Lap Land). I wonder how many A2’s have driven the circuit?
It occurred to me that it would be great if a number of owners/members managed to book a same timed slot and drove around in convoy. It would make a great picture.

I have driven the short circuit, but not in an A2.

Today I took Merlin for a quick blast along the A30 a few junctions each way to determine 100% whether the brand new genuine VAG thermostat I had replaced as a precaution was indeed faulty - which is was - before taking it up to the local garage, who as they are only a few miles away and have excellent google reviews, I thought I'd try them.

My word, this little car is like a rocket - with what would be on other cars "normal" throttle pedal depression in sixth, before you know it you're waaaay past legal speeds and conforming to the Audi stereotype, without the car even being stretched. It's in a different league compared to the Golf turbo diesel of a similar age - and with of course, an extra cylinder - that I had as a courtesy car a few weeks ago when the Touran was in for a service. I am going to have to seriously modify my driving style to tiny throttle inputs compared to what I'm used to as this feels like a genuine 130+ mph car!

Happy to report that Merlin is quiet and refined at speed and very comfortable - with the refurbished suspension birthday boy @Special edition installed a few years back plus the Goodyear Ultragrip 9+ winter tyres on 15" Pepperpots, it really is a very good setup, with not that much in the way of roll in the corners. Looking forward to my first long journey!

Today I finally got the aircon to blow nice and cold in my (new to me) TDI75 - it's been a bit of an uphill struggle all stemming from a failed radiator fan controller. The lack of fan cooling caused the refrigerant gas to overheat, overpressure the system and destroy the pressure switch and the condenser. My excellent local mobile aircon service guy was able to replace both and regas the system. I've just fitted a 2nd hand fan controller from fleabay and now all working as it should ?

Today I made my first visit to Timmus, great to meet him and I'm sure I'll be back again. So thanks to him for his time and also pointing out some work that I should do on the car myself. And now I have two keys, hooray.

It was also my first long journey in my A2 and it really is great at munching the motorway miles.

Annual service, this time with refill of oil from the original oil cap (the leaky original oil tube has been removed)

All filter except fuelfilter have been replaced. Valeo og Febi filters, Valvoline oil.

Today I received a sorry looking check strap returned to me. That’s great but I’ve no idea who sent it back. It was sent Royal Mail signed for
If the owner would like his deposit back then make yourself known with the recorded delivery number

Cheers. Paul

Went through my phone app Fuellio which produced interesting reports on mileage and mpg and cost per mile and also maintenance and servicing cost. Worth a look. But a bit frightening when you see all the totals.

I use Spritmonitor.de and have been pleasantly surprised by the cost of running my A2, although I'm used to seeing the cost of my vehicles rack up! At the moment it's costing 20p a mile, which is the cheapest for a vehicle I have owned in recent years (cue a big bill!)

Mine is similar. 10p/mile for fuel and 20p/mile after including maintenance and servicing. Quite sobering to see the real cost per mile. But no depreciation, I hope.

Finally got round to a considered attempt at removing my "volume fault" radio and replacing. It was well and truly stuck due to the catch on one side being turned inside out. As per the guides on here I pulled the lower cubby, popped out the climate control panel (surprisingly easy) and then could put some pressure on from behind the stereo. Out it popped! HOORAY.

As well as the fault there was some very iffy wiring for a long gone sub-woofer under the seat that I traced back to a phono converter under the steering wheel trim. It was rather poorly taped to the supply/speakers so now thats gone and the cars a kilo lighter and less likley to randomly catch fire. Now I have a usable stereo and can listen to the Disney compilation TAPE I found in the Christmas decorations box (really)

The replacement has mild pixilation so im probably going to take it apart and see if I can face swap it with the old one that was fine, Christmas holls project.

Today I...

Have the privilege to show you what the RNS-E PU in Project OEM is now capable of since trialing the latest firmware from RNSE PCBBC.

The firmware has this evening been released and ready for download. I know there are quite a lot of you out there using their firmware, well it’s just got so so much better.

Here are what’s now available from their website:

There is so much more that your RNS-E PU can now do. Have a look at their website and see what you think. There is a small charge to make all the features work (£15 for 193 users and £10 for 192 users). The reason for the cheaper option for Mk1 192 users is due to these earlier head units aren’t able to take a SD Card large enough for the Maps Data. At this time you’ll have to keep using your DVD unfortunately, that said the other features are just amazing.

I hope this brings a smile to you current RNS-E users. Tom @timmus be prepared for an influx of RNS-E retrofits sir!

Kind regards,

Ton
