I think I might have heat stroke now, things we do for our cars.

Today I. Stripped the front brakes down again and renewed the caliper slider pins and seals. This is after finding them not in great shape when I renewed the pads two weeks back. I had to do this as ECP had one track rod end that was a right in a left box after not having one at all on the bank hol weekend also renewed the bottom suspension / hub ball joints.
Plenty to do looking underneath at the front and back.
The good news is a found my ground down 36 mm socket perfect for the hub nuts.

Disks and pads renewed, now to sort out what I hope is a flat battery on the newest A2

I hate those little screws that hold the disks on both sides required drilling out.

The pads were ok with plenty of meat but thought best to replace with the disks anyway as there was some grooviness going on

Today I restored a bss back to an oss for Richard
It took a slight turn of events as from how it failed a few months ago I thought it was the cable ends or one of the cable ends to be precise which had failed
So wi the a pair of repair plates in hand the glass panels where removed only to find the repair plates already in situ
Turns out the motor mount had failed so it was removed and replaced with one of my cnc machined versions It’s a fiddly job without removing the head lining but doable through the light cluster access
A few hours later and the trucks where going back and fourth like new
Refitted and aligned them glass panels after lubricating the seals and it was all working as originally intended by Mr Audi
A good result all in all

Paul

If this type of screw has rounded out, they can often be shocked out by using a small cold-chisel right on the edge to undo them. Works really well, in fact I've used this method to undo rounded turbo-mounting nuts. It looks / sounds very wrong but works very well.

I did find a replacement for the Philips disc retaining screws that had a Torx head. Much better but can't find their details now.

Those countersunk head screws only hold the disc in place until the wheel is fitted and the wheel bolts torqued. All the clamping force is from the wheel bolts and even if the screw backs off it can't go anywhere.
I still copperslip the heads but only nip them up. Never needed my old fashioned impact driver (the type you hit with a hammer) for years

Cheers Spike

Totally agree Spike, unfortunately a lot of "mechanics" professional or casual do not understand. A couple of years ago I was having a MOT done and in the bay next to me a young lady was having ALL her brakes and shocks replaced. I looked over and the idiot had an air gun with the wrong size bit fitting the screws to the front discs. I went up to him and said that was completely wrong. Got the manager out and he looked at the rounded out screws and said it came in like this!!! Explained to the customer to complain bitterly to head office immediately. By the time my MOT was completed and received a fail for no screen fluid and inop rear fog light ( washer was filled completely 10 minutes before took the car in and the rear fog light was actually a reversing light that did work. I left and took the car straight into another testing station where it passed with no issues at all. Drove back to the original garage and by this time an area manager had appeared and he was believing all the manager was telling him. I stepped in, the area manager listened to what I said and the lady customer backed up what I said but did not no the technicalities. Long story short lady had new brakes all round with new screws and the 4 shocks FREE OF CHARGE. I showed him my fail certificate and also my pass certificate and I had the cost of the MOT reimbursed. Result manager and mechanic immediately sacked.

Replaced mine with SS screws with hex drive heads. As you say no need to do up tight anyway.
