Today I.....

Took off the winter wheels from Cosmo (@lvsghost ) .. and fitted the refurbished 17" Ronals I obtained from @A2Steve last summer - I hadn't realised that straight out of the box they would have the perfect offset to fill the arches nicely without the need for spacers. I'm not lowering the car as the roads around here are ropey, but the ride height doesn't look excessive. Very happy with the way these have turned out.

One question for those who know what they're talking about rather more than me : went out for a wee test drive and there was a rubbing noise from the driver side wheel that changes when the brake pedal is pressed - close examination suggests that the centre of the inner edge of both standard Mintex brake pads are making slight contact with the innermost 2mm of the rim casting which is maybe 2-3mm larger overall diameter than the equivalent on 16" SE rims. On my other half's car there is around a 1mm gap between pad and the alloy. Are all pads exactly the same dimensions or are there any that would fit the FSIII caliper that are maybe slightly slimmer in this area and wouldn't make contact? Conversely, if I take the rim off again, would sanding or filing a chamfer into that part of the pad to take off the edge making contact be an acceptable solution?
Hi Robin_Cox,
I’ve had similar on another car & it turned out to be the disk being worn below the minimum thickness causing the floating calliper to rub on the rim whilst breaking & steering to park, worth a quick check.
Hope that helps,
Keith

Today I completed a little paint work on one of the project cars, this is a little 1.4 Petrol that will be up for sale once finished and MoT’d!

The last time I did paint of any kind was about 32 years ago on a White MK1 Cavalier, reversed into a post so used a mallet to knock it out and painted with Ford diamond white paint!

Took a little more care with the A2 on the rear arches, I know I could have removed them but happy with the results for someone who usually is very heavy handed with anything paint related!

the discs and pads were brand new just before Christmas. Grinding the edge of the backing plate has now resolved the issue caused by the fractionally larger alloy casting diameter. However any anecdotal information like this is always useful in case the same symptoms occur to someone else in the same position - thank you for highlighting this possibility!

are the gunmetal grey 5-spoke rims a few pictures up the other set that @A2Steve was selling last summer the same week I got the Ronals I fitted yesterday?

Cracking job, is that akoya silver?

Evening Ed,

Those headlamps look brilliant, great job.

Seeing these give me the inspiration to tidy mine up as there is always room for improvement. Very nice looking A2 you have there.

Kind regards,

Tom
Too kind sir. Used the 1800 down to 2400 then maguires compound then autoglym then cup of tea between lamps

The pepper pots really suit the A2 and look splendid on yours, complementing the body colour nicely. No doubting they offer the best ride comfort too. I'm stupidly an aesthetics man and 17s plus lowered suspension is for me the best option, which I accept is an acquired taste. :)

Awesome thanks Darren, that was a nice one. I have the 17 wheels ready for restoration, they will be for shows and selling sadly as fallen in love with sport suspension and 15 alloys

I’m running 18’s and just about to install coilovers. Some say I need to grow up, but I do love a sensibly slammed car and don’t mind it firm!
