The Velcro will certainly work. It is how the oil bottle is secured inside the boot. The inflator would then fit nicely under the false floor either to the left or right of the battery access panel on the edge. It would be secure and not obstruct access to the battery either. Other alternative is to place it under the elasticated luggage net.
Akoya had the rubber strap option in the boot - it really was useful.

Fitted a new oil separator today to my BBY engine. I expected it to be in a worse condition as it was original (well 02 date stamp) @ just under 90k.
Not too difficult just disconnecting and reconnecting of the hose was tight.

Well done, I'd changed that last year with 160k on the clock, it was full of tar/water, weighed quite lot as well.

I'm pretty sure they have as well.
Then some opinion from the experts here would be nice about how often (miles/type of driving/frequency of oil change) to inspect and clean. I don't recall seeing this on the maintenance schedule but I could be wrong. My garage always uses longlife whatever the service regime.

I'd say it's like the gearbox oil, officially no need to touch it, but by now probably worth to check it. If you see yellowish smoke during start up, and you know that's not other engine issue, then it's probably getting full of gunk, otherwise it's probably fine.

My TDI90 has very similar consumption figures. Over 2 years I have averaged 60mpg with a best of 67mpg and a worst of 53mpg measured full tank to full tank. I don't use the car for very short urban trips, and I have found that the Aircon ruins the figures as does extra weight (ie 2 adults sitting in the back). My consumption figures are considerably better in winter than summer. That's because here in this part of Greece we don't have winter diesel and in summer the Aircon is always working hard. Overall I'm very happy with the figures, particularly given the current cost of fuel

Strange - I find aircon doesn’t have any effect when I have the instant consumption up on the screen?!

I will try a tankful with it off and report back on my blog thread.

Don't forget, the AC compressor is driven full time, no clutch, direct belt drive. The compressor load will increase when ECON is off, but varies as demand changes, so not as much effect on mpg as you'd think.
Mac.
That's true. However here in summer we are talking 40 degrees or more so the compressor load is always high. Once the ambient temperature drops to below about 27 degrees (which would still be considered a hot day in the UK) I find it comfortable enough to hit the Econ button which reduces the load to virtually zero.

What a pleasant surprise today 😁😁
I serviced the car about a month ago using a Bosch Oil and Air Filter and Mannol 504/507 Oil ... I wonder if the oil has helped with the economy ... zeroed the counter on my last fill up and this time have driven 474 miles down to the beeps ... for many years it has been pretty much constant at 440-450 miles for 37 litres of Tescos E5 petrol ... I'm guessing the engine is finally running in at 193K miles 🤣🤣

Finally got round to fitting sports knob I got hold of a while ago. Not a genuine A2,but sourced from an A3. Look identical to my in experienced eyes and didn’t have to pay the usual A2 premium!

I read all the threads I could find on how to remove. Getting the knob/gator off was pretty straight forward, but no amount of hair dryer or hot water or lubrication over a number of hours could allow me to get the retaining collar off, so ended up carefully cutting off as suggested in one of the threads I read. Still pretty happy with the results

This weekend my car had a trip down to Adam (Kleynie) for the OSS roof repair, such an amazing lad to be dealing with his knowledge and advice and enthusiasm was amazing, i know the car is in safe hands.

I'm looking forward to picking it up tomorrow, hopefully a dry day to be taking it back to Essex

Thanks Adam :)
