Today I.....

Changed the dog bone mount on ‘ORC’

I also took the plunge and Finally changed the dog bone this weekend .

The small bush at the front was starting to break up.

What is it with Audi and 16mm fastener sizes ? Will need to buy a heavy duty 6 pointed 1/2” drive socket for my tool kit .

Today I discovered that Gracie’s developed an unpleasant vibration… it‘s low frequency, most noticeable through the steering wheel, and comes on when accelerating from 50 to 60 regardless of what gear I’m in. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it’s something as innocent as a wheel weight that’s gone missing so going to get my wheels balanced at my local independent tyre place (where they know the A2’s jacking points) first thing tomorrow. I’m hoping this will fix it but not overly optimistic as I’m worried about it being more prevalent under acceleration than at a steady cruise, but it’s something I need to rule out I guess before getting on the phone to Gary (B&F autos). Other thoughts what these symptoms might indicate welcome… it surely can’t be the DMF as it was replaced 9 months and a few 000 miles ago at WOM.

A couple of months on and with real life getting in the way I haven’t had time to get this looked into, beyond getting the wheels balanced. She’s booked in at last for Gary to have a look next week. However the strange thing is that in the relatively small amount I’ve driven her since, the issue seems to have become much less prominent, to the point that if you weren’t looking out for it you’d barely notice it. I hate this kind of thing because I fear it means that Gary won’t be able to find a problem, when it doesn’t seem plausible for the root cause to just go away. Can anyone think of an explanation? If it’s drive shaft or track rod end related as some of you previously suggested, could this happen?

Today is my first full day with a complete set of Bilstein B6 shocks on my A2 (I collected the car from the garage, with a new MOT as well as the shocks, yesterday).

I purchased the full set of shocks in January 2019, but Bilstein were not able to supply the correct front shocks until July 2021, and it's only just been practical to get them swapped over. I've certainly not been disappointed with the quality of the ride since the change, running on standard springs.
Improved ride caught my attention with your new dampers !
What wheel & tyre sizes are you using on your A2

At the moment, I've got the standard SE 16" 6J 6-spoke wheels, with 195/50 Continental tyres at 29.5 psi front and back.

I've also got a set of A3 15" pepperpots that will get Michelin CrossClimate2 185/60s, and then I'll be switching over.

Got a new toy! A Bissel spot vac pro. Will attack the seats and carpets whenI get a moment. Anyone got a recommendation for the best cleaning fluid?

We use this in our Bissel Simon......right up your street based at Manchester Airport 👍:)

Yeah, my SE is also running with standard 16" 6 spokes but it came with unbranded tyres i.e cheap tyres.

Instead of buying 15" pepperpots to improve the ride i'm considering sticking with the 16" SE wheels and doing the following :-
1. upgrading tyres to something softer like Bridgestones Turanza's
2. replacing the front shocks

I used to think that 60 or 65/R15 were the only way to go and that 17s were dreadful. Then I got a car with 17s and Munro shocks and then another with Bilstein B4. They are pretty comfortable. Obviously squishy sidewall help even more but the shocks do have a big effect on comfort

Today I completed refitting the headlining. Whole job taken about 8 weeks. Final tally:

2 bolts missing; 2 torx screws left over; 2 broken trim clips; 2 broken nails; 1 very bruise hand!

Eagle eyes will spot that the groove has been filled with piping. This was because the edges of the 2 materials could be seen in the groove. I think it looks quite a good idea though it would be nice if it didn't go up and down so much. The outer panel material had thicker foam that the original OEM and the re-furbishers folded it round the edges along the sides whereas the OEM didn't. So it was a bit of a pain getting it installed along with all my sound insulation.

Will this one last 18 years, not that I shall be around then to find out!

Good work, looks very tidy.

Finally got round to replacing my leaking LUK tandem pump tonight with a Bosch. Got the LUK off and... no metal gasket whatsoever between the pump and the engine block. I'm assuming that's not normal?
Can only think garage might not have replaced it when had the balance chain and tensioner done - but that was 3 or 4 years ago. If so pretty impressive it lasted that long before leaking

One model has a metal gasket, the other has O rings recessed into the face of the pump.

Ahhh - the metal gasket has the shapes of the o rings impressed into it so wasn't sure but that answers that question.
