Today I.....

Today had 2 advisories with MOT today: track rod ends dust covers deteriorated (L & R). These are the originals from 2004. From other posts there are 2 options: 1) replace the covers 2) replace the ends.

Can't make up my mind whether to have a go myself (an amateur with basic tools including an old fashioned torque wrench) but if my indy were to do it then it seems to me new ends is probably better given the age of the A2 and the labour cost being the same or maybe less.

The garage always says they fit OEM parts but I note looking on the web that autodoc are selling Lemforder (I have Lemforder cast arms and recall they are a recommend brand on the A2OC). The garage will fit provided parts.

Replace the track rod ends, and (unless they've been done recently) it's worth replacing the steering rack boot covers at the same time.

Lemforder are fine, I've just gone with Meyle as a good quality alternative. The track rod ends are handed, so make sure you get one of each, ideally by purchasing as a pair.

Discovered a decent condition Concert II I had forgotten buying wrapped up on the parts shelf in my garage. Considering I only missed out on one a couple of weeks ago to restore CD-playing to my long-distance A2 I'm rather glad at this stage.

Come on then folks .. fess up .. who else has 'sleep bought' parts that are then subsequently rediscovered a year or two later? :)

Littlehampton?
That was the one yes. However I thought it looked familiar and checking back I realised it is the same one that was advertised earlier in the year. I had expressed and interest then too. A truly unhelpful seller; would not answer questions, then he told I was wasting his time and he "just wants a few quid for a banger"
I may say he did not make it to the Christmas card list.
When I realised it was the same one I cancelled the journey.
This is what I managed to get out of them though. No history or paperwork. No evidence of cambelt or water pump. One key. Doggy family
On the plus side full DIS and lumbar in SE seats.
Probably worth twenty or so miles to view but not 220!

I thought it looked familiar too, as I would love a castle red one. Close call then, good job you realise before you set off. Then hunt goes on I assume.
