Today I.....

I have seen similar damage ti caravans, (aluminium like the A2), in mainland Europe. Some manufacturers now offer fibreglass roofs, as an option. Caravan used as long term homes, are often fitted with small mesh netting, about 100mm above the actual roof, to deflect hail.
Mac.
We could fit little striped awnings to our A2's, just like the taxis from the prisoner. Stylish and practical.

Postie just arrived with a parcel from LLParts. Good that LLParts are happy to dispatch to the UK for getting parts no longer stocked by Audi UK.

Looks like the part no.s are for a Seat car (stamped VW AG 6R0615311A/6R0615312A) but all the databases say it's OK for an A2 6Q0615311D/6Q0615312D. Made in Spain and marked VG AG

Slight burs to some edges. I shall spray them with Halfords Heavy Duty PU Lacquer before fitting.

Bought via ebay for £36.36 inc. p&p

Edit: Parts are forward from Germany to UK and then dispatched by Royal Mail, so no additional vat or duty
For a minute I was going to comment on the rear of the backplates. Thought you had it dipped to add blue highlights.
A good coat of smooth black Hammerite is probably the best preserver.

Well Tuesday, gave the front bumper a refresh, stone marks etc letting it down

… picked up A2LLU from WOM in Staffordshire after a good amount of TLC.

My 6-speed A2 Cars gearbox had started to fall apart a while back and was now down to 4 gears and pretty noisy as well. I’d had an oil pump chain refurb kit in the house for at least a couple of years and the car was ready for a cam belt. I’d felt for a while like I was driving a time bomb!

All sorted now. Gearbox replaced with 45k miler KFK gearbox (5 speed, same family as JDD) and new clutch, oil pump chain and guides replaced, cambelt and service.

Thanks to Rob and Marcus, the old girl is back to her old self!. Can’t thank them enough for their work and sensible guidance.
KFK

Never heard anyone mention that gearbox before, can I ask what revs the engine is doing at 70 mph in 5th gear?

Cheers

Evening Tom,

According to the below link, the KFK is very closely matched to the MZN ‘box that is extremely good in the A2:

Not quite as long as the JDD ‘box but a very good compromise just like the MZN; which some users do prefer.

Kind regards,

Tom

I have a MZN box that I will at some point be throwing in Mr Black will be good to see which I prefer between the MZN and Mr Silvers JDD. Good to know KFK is another option, blimey VAG do make things complex with the same box but so many different codes would love to know what if any differences there are between them other than some having the neutral sensor for stop start!

Changed my hatch gas struts. Old ones didnt quite make it to the top resulting in a few headaches.

£18 and 10 minutes.

As has been said in other posts - put them upside down to stop a noticable bump at the top of the stroke

I bought these ones

Today, I changed the thermostat housing on my FSI. The electric connector in the back of it had come out.
Doing the selector cable I knew it had to be reset. So, I put a Zip tie round the rear part, up against the front part. Could only go back correctly that way.
The stupid Audi connector with the push, squeeze, pull system coupled with almost no access and a short cable made it impossible to release the old bit, so I had to use a micro screwdriver to release it. Not in the middle as you'd expect, but on the side. I practiced on the sensor on the top of the engine. Glad I did, I'd have never have known. I found out by accident.
The thermostat I took off looked brand new! Zero signs of deposits. Either side. I had another here, and it has 2 different colour deposits. The one I took off had a broken lock ring collar. Not a clue how that happened. Must have been the person that fitted it.
Cleared the error code and took it for a drive.
Got to say, it's made an improvement in the way it drives.
It was intermittent just after I got the car, and recently it's been a total fail.
So much more fun to drive now!!!!20231029_005345.jpg20231029_010212.jpg20231029_010230.jpg

Today my wife presented me with this! I can’t drive far at the moment after a knee op so she collected for me. What a sweetheart!
It has been getting a few goodies at WOM, thank you Marcus and Rob! @chumsofmanutd and @A2Steve.
I bought it with a trashed turbo but the car was otherwise good, but it now has a few upgrades.
It’s a 90, PTW box, billet turbo, Bilstein B6 all round, 288mm Brembo discs and Willwood 4 pot calipers on the front. It stops as well as it goes!
It’s probably going to get some lighter wheels.
The Willwood calipers are aluminium and very light in comparison to the originals.
It’s lovely to drive and I might put those Willwoods on another car too now.

George

Wow! That is a serious amount of stopping power! Wilwood calipers are incredibly cool.

Hi Phil, yip they are powerful but lots of feel too.
I think it might do a “stoppie” in the dry. Childish I know but they are seriously light in comparison with standard calipers. And yes they’re coool!
I got them for my unbirthday, Lol
