Today I.....

Hello Tom,

Difficult to answer for your Mr Grey as I’ve not seen the wiring arrangement and don’t know what head unit it actually is. Rest assured though, if the Mini-ISO connectors and associated wiring were adapted correctly then you shouldn’t have any current drain. The pre-ignition live to hold volatile memory (radio station pre-sets etc) is absolutely minimal when off as it is within a factory head unit. The ignition live obviously cannot draw anything whilst the ignition is off.

The answer to your question really depends on how the wiring was adapted for the aftermarket head unit. The problem is possibly elsewhere in the vehicle. Cannot say for sure. Have you tested the circuits to fully understand where the current draw is coming from or have you already concluded it’s the head unit power supplies.

Kind regards,

Tom
It was a general question to be honest in case their are any known pit falls for creating a drain upon fitting an aftermarket head unit, touch wood it's OK but I still need to road test the car as their does seem to have been some pressure in the coolant system which I can't really understand and wasn't mentioned when listed, hopefully just a bit of trapped air and not the dreaded head gasket!

Got it all reassembled and the ride it much smoother. Whole new front suspension.
Changed -
Subframe,
Wishbones
Dampers and springs
ARB bushes and drop links
Track rod ends

But the steering is now very heavy and notchy.
Could it something that I've done, or power steering fluid loss?

Sounds like the power steering isn’t working for whatever reason
The fluid was slightly low, just topped up and feel slightly better now.
The steering rack had to be unbolted from the subframe and swapped to the new one. But that just involved removing and replacing 4 bolts. Nothing was disconnected.

Afternoon All,

So…….. Today I… had a visit from Edward @Edwrai who, behind the scene has been working on one of these for me:

To make best use of this custom car picture:

And here you go:

So happy to have the custom picture match the vehicles exterior.

An absolute massive thank you to Edward for the time spent doing this for me. You can all easily imagine the massive grin on my face right now!

I’ll provide a few more pictures along with an informative write up on the cars dedicated thread in time; once I’ve finished playing with the customisable setting.

Kind regards,

Tom

Ah - I read the fuel icon in the bottom left as saying 28 miles range left in the tank…
Hi David,

No that’s 28ml used since fitting the new screen. I’ll update the informative displays later on once I’ve had an in-depth playing with all the settings.

Kind regards,

Tom

Had four new 195 45 16 tyres fitted to my A1 wheels instead of the 215s which were a bit over sized and totally used up ... Also broke the tip off my dipstick . Ordered a cheap one off eBay but won't get it for a week. Going to get a depronman repair instead ..

Visited a local car meet this morning (in Caerphilly organised by No limits (FB)).
Lots of very expensive and fast metal on show (Ferrari's, Lambo's, Aston martins, Mclaren's, Porsche, High end Audi's/Mercede's and nissan skylines, Yaris GRs, Ford escort and sierra cosworths).
Great to see some old MK1 and mk2 escorts (a rare mk2 harrier), some old rovers and even an anglia drag car.
Along with some very nice mk1 golf gti's and a rare polo G40.
Surprise My A2 was the only one there.
Gives me some much needed motivation to get my project finished.
Pictures are on FB look for No limits.

Yesterday I installed an Einhell CE-BC 4 M intelligent battery charger and associated mains spur socket and then connected to the A2 via the boot cigarette socket.

In the autumn/spring I have a PV system that keeps the battery topped up. But in the winter just when a full battery is needed for a good start in low temperatures the PV system is insufficient. Hence this new charger that replaces a 25+ year old dumb charger (I think I bought it in Woolies!).

Within 30 minutes of plugging it in it said "Full". Strange as I've only done short journeys with lights and wipers on recently.

After collecting a new A2 for the fleet from @Thame Traveller (Many thanks) last night the first job was to sort the heater flap after 150 miles in boil in the bag experience along the M40/M6. Followed the guide on here to get the glovebox out and teased the white cog which didn't look like it moved but got the flap to operate. Sprayed the general area with silicone lubricant. Let's see how long it lasts.............A few other jobs planned not least adding a Bluetooth phone kit - probably a Parrot CK3000 even though they have doubled in price from the last time, but they integrate so well!
No diagnosis yet on my broken cam belt A2 (aka The Lazarus Project)

Evening all,

Today I… Got the Volico paint out.

Remember this Swing Rear Cup Holder:

That was stripped down as per this thread:

And ended receiving a bit more Soul:

Well it was dismantled earlier today for another round of Volico paint:

This time with a little Twist:

Who doesn’t absolutely love a factory fresh looking Twist Rear Cup Holder!

So I guess the question is why did I do this when I already have a Twist Rear Cup Holder in the Project OEM A2 and a Soul (used to be Swing) Rear Cup Holder in the Project EUD A2, well whilst recently visiting Neil @nee777.a2 for the tailgate swap I noticed that he had a Twist interior with a Soul Rear Cup Holder and rather liked the idea of having it painted to match the remainder of his lovely interior.

We had a chat and concluded that I might as well have the factory Soul item and I paint the item I have previously dismantled and recolour it Twist for him. He has a fresh looking item in the colour he wants and I have an aged Soul coloured item to match the age of the remainder of my Soul interior. Win win all round I think.

I’m sure Neil will be very happy with the outcome of this this evenings task when he receives it tomorrow.

Kind regards,

Tom

Fitted my "A2OC" number plate surrounds, (I've got new number plates on order) and
touched up a few minor scratches.
Anyone got any tips on removing the corroded screws holding the number plate lights so I can fit LEDs, without breaking the existing holders?
Really needs a good wash, but far too cold at the moment!
