Today I.....

yes I was chuffed when I filled up
Thanks for the offer of gearbox collection, but I would still have needed to collect it from you, unless you where coming down country :)

cheers,
Well actually planning a trip to you soon as Ian is coming to you in August. Never mind 300 miles in our A2’s are nothing

Today I finally deployed the reflective half-cover I bought few weeks ago, given in the next few days temperature in London will reach a cool 37 degrees ?. All in all happy with the quality and fit, considering is a general half cover bought for £26. Now I can sleep without worrying the dashboard melting and the leather cracking.

I removed the passenger side front wheel and had a little look around, the suspension strut is very rusty, there is a small blue plug that's been taped up I assume this is for the brake wear indicator sensor ?

Yes that sounds like the break wear indicator
More trouble than it worth connect the wires together to disable the monitoring system and keep an eye on the pad thickness left. When at about 2 to 3 mm left replace the pad and discs if needed
The very fact that it only works on one side of the car says to me that I would never trust it as who knows were the drivers side pads are in terms of wear !!!
It is usual for breaks in the wiring so it’s normal to join the wires further up the loom in the engine bay
Cheers. Paul

Jacked up drivers side front and removed wheel, all suspension components very rusty also,

After reading Sarge's guide I started trying to remove the large plastic under tray found that who ever had been there last had ripped it off at the Webasto pipe point and its now moving around, I managed to get 5 screws out the rest are solid, some are missing also and the one's at the arch one has just been ripped off the other is turning above, I ended up giving up because it started raining quite hard.

I also noticed the black plastic trim under the bumper has been ripped in three places, one bit I could visually see before I started but there are at least two or three other area's split and someone has been at it with cable ties to secure it, I could'nt see how to remove it or is it part of the whole bumper ?

It looks like its taken a fair bit of punishment and the salty Shetland air and damp weather have taken its toll also.

.... Think I must have had a funny turn. I went down to sunny Tamworth and picked up this beauty, thanks for all the help @Fallan, it purred up the road and returned 72mpg

Think I'm going to call it "Pat"

If anyone has any Piedmont colour panels let me know!

James

Definitely not a funny turn, after all you are the A2 towbar ‘buyer upper’!! ?

Glad you got home safely James

Having had a lot of both, it really does honestly

Well; same here. And no, mine do not go lower than basic. They sit higher (I am 6,5 feet tall and know when the roof is getting even closer hehe).

I can try to measure the basic and sport leather when in garage next time

Glad you have bought it, I was still keen but common sense had to prevail, I love the colour and the towbar. Good luck with it

So today ... 1 year ago I collected my A2 Tdi 90 ....and named him Basil , this being a long term plan for a project car , which was 1st hatched in 2005 ... 4 house moves later , and a replacement wife finally allowed this to happen last year ...

And while sitting beside the pool in France on holiday ... though it’s been an amazing year of ownership, and started to think , it’s been hell of a journey...

Here the list repairs , modifications, and improvements required over the year ... I added around 12k of miles , bringing the total to 186k

1. New engine coolant sensor, and thermostat, easy fix
2. New rear shocks , easy fix
4. New carpet mats , via Crewe Audi
5. Rear cup holder , via the market place
6. Hand brake tray , via the market place
7.Front and rear mud flaps , easy job
8.1.2 exhaust cover , easy job
9.Door check straps , both fronts
10. Rear discs and pads
11. Rear Abs sensors
12.Rear wheel bearing , both sides
13. Rear hand brake cables
14. New battery
15. Replacement steering wheel angle sensor
16. Refixed the aluminium heat sheilds
17. Unblocked the cabin heat exchanger, it’s was filled with rust
18. New flap motor sensor
19 .New a/c compressor
20. New a/c condenser
21. And a complete engine over haul , with new short engine ...
22. Reconditioned turbo
23. FSI , 1.2 winglets
24. Lower engine dog bone bush
24. Roll bar bushes
25. New front discs and pads
26. Cleaned engine to body earth cable
27. Replaced damaged internal plastic trims

The following , I would consider to be modified from standard

1. Myp 6 speed gear box , with tt gear knob
2. Pro intercooler
3. Remap , giving 380mn of pulling power , and around 125 BHP , plus 80 mpg
4. 2nd rear fog light
5. MK2 RNS-E
6. MK1 TT Pedals
7.bose sound installation
8.Auto dimming mirror
9. TT COMP wheels with 205/45/17 tyres
10. Flat bottom steering wheel
11.Audi blue tooth set up
12.Full colour DIS
13.Double din dash board swap
14. Heated seat climate control unit
15.AUX input socket
16. Front fog lights , and switch

For those that have followed this journey , the car is with WOM autos , following its unplanned excursion down the drive , into the wife car...

All things being well , it should be back on the road in the next 4-6 weeks , with the following upgrades

1. New Audi towbar
2. New windscreen
3. H And R roll bar package
4. 312mm discs and pads , overhauled TT callipers etc
5.35mm lowering springs
6. New front shocks , bearing
7. New lower wish bones
8 .resprayed front end , on a reclaimed bonnet/ bumper
9. New radiator
10. New condenser
11. Reclaimed slam panel

Other than the above , the cars been totally reliable.....

Regards Mark
