Many thanks!!

Thinking about it i have heard the A4 B7 locks fit with only a very slight modification to allow the lock rod to fit, would these also suffer from lead free solder failure?

I would think so, same age of manufacture and lead free solder as not really improves much since it was introduced around 1999

Was thinking of Ebay replacement thou so a new build lol?

Chinese new build or Audi originals ? Will be a world of difference unless the originals are now made in China and the same factory is ‘white boxing’ some for sale not to VAG

Yeah that's too true sadly!

Thinking the cheap option lol!

Had a great day , Deproman supplied and fitted a cruise control to my little Howdy.
I think I've learned a little over 2,000 facts and figures on A2s.
Many thanks, Deproman.
All I have to do now is investigate the two aquarium sized leaks in the footwells...T.b.c :)

Your very welcome and if it saves your right foot on the long drives up and down the country then all good
Yes it’s not the first time I’ve seen water o. The two secret compartments but your where up there in terms of water content
Personally I would remove a grommet in both as a safety measure unless you take it into water for a paddle which is not recommended in the A2 as the air filter is very low down and water ingress into the engine is an ever present worry

It’s a good Job I found the water particularly in the passenger side where all the sensitive electrics are located, the looms where bathing but nothing else was affected, another few days and it could well have been a very different story

I’ve put a check strap to one side for your passenger door, give me a call when your next in the blackpool area and it’s a dry evening and I’ll change it over for you

Cheers again, and rest assured the water ingress will receive my undivided attention A.S.A.P.
Speak very soon regarding noisy? irritating check-strap.

Bought a Maserati Quattroporte!!!

Wasn’t the plan and may well end up being something I live to regret but right now I’m excited!!

If things go well with it, I suspect it will mean Tonka goes up for sale next year. That is a promise I’ve made to my wife.

Exact opposite of an A2

Well it happened on Friday actually.
MOT failed. I'd left it late as after last year's findings I was pretty confident she'd pass, after I only doing 7k miles since.
Failed on near side wishbone bush, advisory last year, And a cracked nearside spring. That might explain the clunk.
I have been planning to fit the PQ25 subframe I have, just not at this time of year, next summer was the aim. Ordered up 2 pressed wishbones and bolts and hoping to fit over Crimbo.
The springs will be fitted at the same time as the Sachs dampers I bought, just incase, in a eBay deal.
The split track rod end rubber (I asked them to fit pre-MOT) didn't get a mention.

Sadly I'm doing the same subframe job at the moment on my daughter's Polo 6R (1.6tdi) who's current subframe is quite "sievelike", I'm amazed it hasn't collapsed. The replacement which is in great condition, is from an A1 and was £34 including delivery on eBay!! (was more for the new bolts, links and rollbar bushes lol). Quick wirebrush and respray and it's ready to go. Have to do the track rods at the same time so waiting for removal tool to arrive before I can carry on. If I'd read your comment on being able to use these subframes on the A2 I might have kept this one for myself :)

How is the job going, did all the bolts come apart ok?
There is a thread on here about the swap over to the PQ25 subframe, off an A1 etc. it linked to the German A2 website, makes good reading.
You beat me on the subframe price, my A1 frame cost about £45, but apart from a bit of rust at the welds is in almost new condition. I don't think it spent long on the road.

Today I installed my engine additional earth strap.

Starting is 2% first crank, 98% second crank. Must be either spark or fuel, and I am leaning to spark.

I have (of course) taken off both ends of the standard earth strap and cleaned them up.

Let's see if an earth from the head to chassis helps, or perhaps it is my coil (1.4 AUA, early 2001).

I have not changed plugs or leads in my ownership (9 months), and don't want to really.....

If anyone has the magic solution, happy to hear it!

Matt
