Today I.....

And today I reset the MF steering wheel “straight”, it had been off a couple of degrees since fitted. I know it’s minor but it just feels better. So much so I just had to take Frank for a run to enjoy the straightness… lol

Looks great George.
Are the Monoblocs still wearing the same rubber as I sold them with or have you replaced them? I think they were Sunny brand.

Today I missed my moment by 5 miles. Oh well. Also carried out an oil and filter service on the car over the weekend, at some point I need to sort out the NSF top mount which has had enough of the potholes, and replace both inner CV boots which aren't looking too great.

Yep, there was a decent amount of tread on them, I guess you aren’t going to wear them out anytime soon either

I experienced a drone from the front, I think it was the fronts, must have been my car as Steve didn’t notice it.

I’ve not noticed that but then my hearing is not as sharp as it was….

The first job I did, after buying The FSI a few years back was to replace the tired gas struts on the hatch. I used SGS struts, vec they are made in UK. Today I replaced those poor quality SGS units with Stabilus HV8413 units. Much better.
Mac.

Please don’t anybody use SGS ever again - their struts are the wrong spec and their customer service is awful. Stabilus off eBay are the way to go.

Hi Mac, my tailgate is getting a little heavy (man) and these UK made struts sound ideal. As they are a little stronger, does the tailgate pop open 'automatically' when the keyfob button is pressed? Thanks, Andy

No they don’t, this is effected by fitting extra springs to the struts, which over time can cause cracking at the strut mount points and water leakage . The springs also mean the boot then needs slamming to shut. Best avoided !

The fact SGS list 3x different struts for the A2 (including a set for over £600!) tells all about why they should be avoided. Their customer service will insist you are in the wrong when the struts fail to lift fully and are shorter than stock.

In this case, pay more and buy twice..

Today, I wanted to sort out my glove box issue, the trim on the left is just hanging on, it’s just wedged in and holds okay but it looks awful.

On closer look it seems the glove box isn’t attached at the bottom fixings, the metal looks like it’s been cut for some reason. (Or is this the way it is)

The door piller trim doesn’t line up with the upper trim, I think someone’s had a go and replaced the glove box, the light doesn’t work so I’m thinking it’s probably not connected. (I’ve changed the bulb)

Is the glove box removal an easy job?

Cheers. Jae

Five screws. All torx heads. On your maybe only 4
Two at the top. One behind the coin holder. One at the bottom near the centre consul and the fifth one is at the door side which you may not need to remove as it looks like yours may have been butchered somewhat
There is a loom to light. Only works when side lights are on btw
And another loom to the air bag disable switch if it’s fitted on your car ( key switch in the glovebox )

Paul, thank you for the help, I have managed to get the glove box off, and can see why the light doesn’t work.

I am going to see if I can glue the left hand side plastic fixing, but I don’t think it will hold.

I took the carpet out which felt wet to the touch, damp even. I have checked the under floor compartment and that’s dry.

So I’m thinking just condensation.

That mounting got broken on my glovebox as well. I glued it back on but then also used a metal mending strip to reinforce it on the side that you put the screw in from. I worked out where to bend the strip so that with the end hole lined up with the mounting to accept the screw, it would match the line of the rest of the moulding as far as possible. I glued & screwed the metal strip to the plastic through its other holes. You can't see it when it's fitted and all the trim is back in place.

I sell a repair part for the broken switch on the glove box
Only £3.50 plus the postage of £1.65
It is a permanent fix to the glove box light issue

Actually the very first part I ever 3D printed for the A2’s back in 2016. Have lost count of the number of these I’ve sold since then but is well into the hundreds

The door piller trim doesn’t line up with the upper trim, ....
Good Afternoon,

The short thin upper trim above the big threshold trim should have a tab at the bottom that mates with the hole to keep it all lined up and neat. Somebody has broken it off, probably by removing the door threshold trim before removing the thin bit first, don't ask me how I know. The thin bit just pulls off, lever out from the top, one of the in-house recyclers will have one it will cost next to nothing, the part number is on the back.
