Today I.....

They’re very similar, but do not work in the A2. The CAN ‘dialect’ is different, meaning they don’t fully interface with the rest of the A2’s systems, irrespective of firmware.

Cheers,

Tom
If the program memory (eprom?) content is replaced with that from an A2 cluster, where could then any remaining can dialect reside? Are there several program memories, do you know ?

Fitted some Philips Ultimon Pro3000 T10 led bulbs in the side lights. Cor that makes a difference. About a weeks ago I fitted some Novsight H7 LED low beam lights as a trial. Very impressed, thou not strictly permitted under current MOT regulation they are an improvement on the Nightbreakers I had fitted
Oh and cleaned all the tar splats off the plastic sills and anywhere else I could find them

Failed to change the oil separator on my 1.4 AUA. How on earth do you remove the hose from the separator!? Everything looks original oem so I don’t think anyone has been been there before and been liberal with the silicone to seal things up. I ran out of patience and light about 430 so ended up replacing the brittle seals in the hope it’ll do some good.

My hat is off to you Tom! Really impressed. Good to see the UK still has people with this capability. I've just spent 2 days trying to build Asterisk/FreePBX. Got there at last but it's certainly not the day job for me working at that lower layers level.
Hi Alan.

Glad you like what I have been tinkering with recently. Good to know from other Tom that what I have been investigating actually already exists in a few A2s which confirms that it’s not been a waste of my time.

I know I could have sourced a nice looking set of aftermarket white scales for £100-£120 from K-Tec but I think the half price (cost me £60 for the separate white scales) factory solution might just be a better look.

It’s a shame that the 8L cluster wont work in the A2 but nothing lost. Quite sure that the A2 FSI cluster with A2 TDI firmware will be just fine though. I’ll write to a FSI cluster one evening during the week and report my findings.

Kind regards,

Tom

You squeeze the texture area of the clamp together and gently Wiggle away from the fixing. Mine took about two minutes of gentle pressure to finally let go. You could try the other end and remove whole pipe. It is tight. I did mine yesterday. Its like a bleach cap.

… started cleaning up my new rear axle @Ami sorted for me. Lots of wire brushing to remove loose rust. Not going to do a detailed guide as there are already two excellent write ups on the forum but thought I might post some pics as things progress

Pretty grubby. Starting to clean up nicely

It‘s actually really sound. I took loads of photos of the bushes so I can get new ones back in correctly

Next steps:
Some more wire bushing
Some electrolytic cleaning of certain areas
Getting the old bushes out
Blast cleaning and I think zinc coating, not sure yet

Looking good Justin.

Good that they featured the A2, but bad that they lazily got two things wrong in such a short piece! The piece on the TT also suggests it was A3 inside, whereas in reality it was A3 underneath, which made it mainly Golf underneath.

90mpg+ only applies to the 3L which the UK never had, and yes, the bonnet does open (albeit, by being removed entirely).

Apart from that, it's OK!
