Today I.....

Can't wait to hear your thoughts once completed, on how this changes the handling and if it makes a noticeable difference 👍
Hello there.

I’ve already been out for a 10 miles test drive and the difference really is night and day difference. Why have I waited soo long to add one of these upgrades!

In the next hour the car will be 4-up when we pop out for dinner to see what reports I get for the rear passengers; probably won’t even notice any change but I’m sure I will from the front.

Kind regards,

Tom

Today I managed to bag myself another Votex bodykit in Cobalt blue so it's looking like Heather's car will be sporting a kit sometime in the near future 👌
Hi Iain,

There are a few Votex kits raising their head lately. I’ve also go a full/compete spare kit which I think you know the main kit as you sold it to Terry in Wales. That’s now in my attic space or the next project along with a factory spoiler.

Finding a kit that can go straight on without painting is brilliant. Sweet work Sir.

Kind regards,

Tom

How this affected the ride ?
Hi Bordos,
See response in separate thread below

Not A2 related but have read lots of horror stories on other VAG forums. The seams on the silica bags in the coolant header tanks fail and clog the heater matrix etc with silica gel. So drained/removed the header tanks and dug the bags out on my A6 and my wife's Golf. Better safe than sorry!!

Why are they in there in the first place?
Mac.

After 16 years of ownership my beloved A2 had a problem for the first time ever and I had to call the AA out! I'm thinking about complaining to Audi about the reliability 😄.

It was the wiper motor earth and after showing the AA guy the fix on this forum, he fitted a new earth for me in the pouring rain and he made a good job of it as well. Wipers now working much faster.

FSI failed its MOT today, been a hectic few days...
After proclaiming it finished the other day, when moving it across the yard the engine light came back, knock sensor voltage too high intermittent, manifold flaps not reaching setpoint, and no response from lambda sensor.

I removed the locking pin for the vacuum actuator I'd accidentally left in when I put it all back together, but it still didn't work.
I noticed I'd put the one way valve for the control of the actuator the wrong way round, despite photographing it before disassembly which was a delightfully easy fix.
But then my repair to the arm of the actuator failed, I had thought it would be plenty strong enough, (carbon rods and epoxy) but upon a bit of googling it turns out regular araldite is only rated for 80 degrees Celsius and no match for the hot FSI engine bay.

Because of the design of the manifold, (the travel the flaps have in the cylinder head is not enough to line up the actuator with the clearance slot needed to slide it out) the whole thing needs to be disassembled to remove the actuator, upper and lower manifold, including the high pressure fuel system...

Took it apart on Monday, repaired the actuator for a second time, this time with stainless steel wire and araldite 2011 which has a slightly higher heat resistance.
I also fixed someone's botched wiring job on the knock sensor.
Lambda error dissapeared and hasnt returned
Got it back together by Tuesday evening, but when driving it home in preparation for its MOT at 8:30 this morning (I work in my grandads workshop but the mot centre is much closer to home), having stopped to investigate a smell, I leant lightly against one of the fittings to the coolant vent pipes, which snapped of, spraying out boiling coolant.

Left it in a layby overnight, got a lift out to it this morning, bodged it enough for the MOT and topped it up with water, only for it to fail on some brake stuff (Handbrake efficiency less then 50% being the main one)

Tomorrow I rebuild the brakes 🤣
