Warning Light ABS? Brakes? Unsure

That's very odd, I hope the error doesn't come back! Clutch switch is on all diesel's (if you have a diesel) but I don't think its monitored, will check FR. Its used to artificially limit engine braking, so you don't hit the windscreen when you let off the power, but enables full fuel cut/intake flap closure when you put the clutch in, so the rev falls quickly for smooth gear changes. The ECU doesn't monitor the reverse light switch, its just that, the light switch. The ECU calculates your current gear based on road speed vs RPM, and uses it as part of idle speed calculation and for the Anti-Judder strategy. ME7 that run 1.8T's of the era use the same system to implement load/torque by gear limits as part of their torque model.

There could however have been some odd electrical issue where the partially depressed light switch arcs and causes interference that causes a communication failure.

Whatever it is, its very odd!

Hi Nate, is this clutch switch also on the 1.4 petrol?
I was thinking the gear shift cables were interfering with something electrical, I had another look today and all I can see is if the selector is loose on the shaft it can tilt forward and maybe arc with the positive terminal on the starter motor... there isn't a lot of clearance.

Not sure, I'm sure someone can check. Regardless I don't think its the cause. And yeah, I think that's reasonable, if that has happened you'll see some scorch marks

Can you list the exact sizes of all 4 tyres fitted to the car. One wrong / mismatched tyre can throw up errors. although unless you have had a new tyre this fault should have been there before now.

We really need that VCDS scan results to narrow down this issue.

How good is the battery / alternator as low voltages do cause electrical warnings - noticed the date on your clock is 2000.
Brand new battery and alternator in August

@safbeafbe Did you end up resolving this please if you don't mind me asking? I appear to be having a similar issue.
Poor timing on this issue, I've been ill with tonsillitis and been away the past couple weekends so I've not had it scanned yet. I know everyone on the thread is aching for answers but I'm new to all this and quite slow at sorting things!!
