Webasto! Why won’t it work on its own…. VCDS enabled??

So, we could consider adding the line:
016,0,Auxiliary heating
016,1,Generator load
016,2,Switch-off,conditions
; xxxxxxx1 = coolant temp. > 80 °C OR intake air temp. > 5 °C
; xxxxxx1x = alternator defective
; xxxxx1xx = Battery voltage < 9 V
; xxxx1xxx = Engine speed < 400 rpm
; xxx1xxxx = Engine start within the last 10 seconds
; xx1xxxxx = Coolant temp. sensor OR intake manifold temp. defective OR auxiliary heater output stage defective

; x1xxxxxx = No request (OFF/ECON active)
1xxxxxxx = Outside temperature greater than 5 °C
016,3,Control of heating elements,x1 - Relay for low heating power ON\n1x - Relay for high heating power ON
016,4,Supply,voltage,setpoint: 13.5...14.8 V

To the AMF lbl file, then at least VCDS will, (and would have long ago), tell us what the problem is.

It would be better to find out why, and maybe correct it, than hard coding it out, in my opinion.
I'll study the electrical schematic for clues tomorrow.
Since @Howey seems to have a working Webasto, on Map 5, let's wait and see if he can confirm his reading of Group 016.
With a bit of digging, we might be able to avoid mass ECU mods.
Thanks to @Andrew for finding the key to the mystery. These lbl files really are a great source of info.
Mac.
Good Evening Mac,

The answer to your question is no, the AMF label file is . cbl not .lbl.

Also interesting to note the OR condition in the BHC label file with the 1st bit, absent in the AMF label file.

Likely reason is the bhc was never fitted with the webasto only the electric heater

No neither car does, sure the silver one would work too if glow plug wasn't faulty
Cheers, I thought so. Because you don't have AC, there is no ECON button, so the ECON input to the ECU is permanent Off, so the Webasto runs on Map 5.

Both climatron and manual heating have an econ button

Mac, there's an ECON button on non-AC diesel cars too, because they still have one of the forms of Aux heater - Webasto or electric element. It's only the petrol non-AC cars that don't have the ECON button, because no Aux heater is necessary for them.

Edit - just to note for clarity, ECON turns off (or prevents from activating) both AC and any Aux heater that are fitted. Only non-AC petrol cars have neither.

Thanks Ian, I understand now.
The Electric Heater has it's own control block, (one for low heat 03, bit 1, and one for high heat, 03, bit 2).
So, I'm guessing, that the ECON button input, data bit, (block 02) , is not required, so is set Off.

But the Lite, (.lbl) version of the AMF is missing the ECON condition line, but displays the ECON button bit, so adding the line would simply add the missing condition?
In Tom's ( @2work ), post the screen shot is of a .cbl label, but, oddly, is still missing the ECON button condition.

I am getting a bit lost. As you say the AMF .lbl is missing, both Lite and full VCDS, so you cannot add a line in a file that does not exist.

In my VCDS Lite lable folder, I have an AMF .lbl file.
It is missing the line that refers to the ECON button.
If the missing line was inserted,
then it would be correctly listing all of the Aux Heater Shut Down conditions.

I also noticed that in Tom's post, of the balloon text, the ECON button condition line is also missing, and his lable file is a .cbl.
Wondering why it's missing, if your .cbl has that line.

Hi Mac,

Apologies for misreading your post. Interesting that Ross-Tech have removed the AMF .lbl from full VCDS at some time, I assume as now redundant with the .cbl in place and to deny market competitors a view of the AMF lbl content. I will have the .cbl the same as Tom with the description line missing.

As you have the AMF lite .lbl you could just add the missing line in the balloon popup but as you say balloon popups are not available in Lite there is no point. I assume the lack of Lite popup balloons is one the deliberate limitations imposed on Lite.

Some controllers do have pop ups in Lite, the one I have seen, and used, is for the the Chorus and Concert. Although it too lacks some lines, in particular the Diversity option is available, but the pop up does not include it.
I've got used to using Lite without pop ups, just make sure I've got the appropriate info to hand. When I did the Steering Angle Sensor, in the TT, there were none, I remember.
As you suggested, Ross-Tech may well want to create clear advantages for the premium version. Understandable, given the upfront, and continuing investment they put into it.
There is still lots of good info in the lable files though.

I reckon this thread deserves a nomination for Thread of the Year. 🌟

I’ve not got to vcds in my own car to force the webasto to operate but I did have an electrical aux heater in a bhc A2 here today and took the opportunity to check engine ecu block 16. 2nd bit from left is indeed changed when the econ button is pressed.
Econ light on = 1
Econ light off = 0
Another piece in the jigsaw puzzle

I suspect the Jigsaw is only missing on little "bit"
