Webasto! Why won’t it work on its own…. VCDS enabled??

Do you have vcds? If so can you please confirm the 00002 / 00005 coding on the engine ecu
The reason is yours appears to be bucking the trend on what we have established over the last couple of days hence my scepticism of your code reader

Both cars have your remapped ecus in (well I switched mr silvers for its original upon fault finding however that appears to be a remapped ecu by a previous owner) will make sure Mr blacks is working as its the wife's car really now but I know Mr Silvers fan started as I could feel the air coming out of the exhaust but it never gets hot as the glow plug fault must be turning it off I presume. Both mine are non ac cars so manual twist knobs.

I have only the shareware version of vcds but it's a pita as its on a laptop which needs to be constantly plugged in

So you have vcds ?

Only the shareware basic knock off cable, after Christmas I plan to treat myself

That will do just fine
Can you check the ecu coding on both cars. It is displayed in the top left hand area of vcds when you log into 1 engine control unit

Will do when I get chance, however I can guarantee they will be 0005 as that's what you set them to lol

Understood but that is bucking the trend found over the last couple of days
At the end of the day if they are working on coding 00005 then great but it’s not making sense that yours are working on 00005 and others checked are only working on 00002

Get back to me on this thread so we keep all the info in the same place please once you have confirmed with vcds

Cheers. Paul

Just to keep me happy, could someone look at Group 016, Block 02 when the code is 00002, and again when it's 00005 please?
Just to satisfy my curiosity.
Incidentally, I think Group 016, Edit: Blocks 03 is the controls for the two levels of the electric heater. If so, it switches the two relays that power the heater elements.
Edit:
016,3,Heating Element,Activation,1x = Relay for High Heat Output (J360) ON\nx1 = Relay for Low Heat output (J359) ON
; 1x = Relay for High Heat Output (J360) ON
; x1 = Relay for Low Heat output (J359) ON

Paul,

Pretty sure Tonka is running your map and therefore will be on 00005. Webasto fired up this morning. Will check with VCDS tomorrow and report back,

Erling

Mr Black is 00005 with perfectly working webasto, laptop is dead but supervag which reads all my cars very well (it's not purfect but it's good and pulls the skc with ease)

Thanks for the confirmation
It does indeed look to be coded to 00005

This does throw a spanner in the works as to the understanding but it is what it is

Can you see my block data? It must be all zeros, for the heater to run.
Edit: And and I'll bet it's not all zeros, when it doesn't run.
By knowing which of the eight bits is a 1, you'll know what stopping it
Mac.

I need to have a play with it more it seems to have a load of functions on it to be fair and is mega convenient as it's a hand held reader

Hi Robin
Thank you very much for checking this and confirming my theory

In summary it doesn’t matter which type of Aux heater is fitted, webasto or electrical heater, both only work when the engine ecu is coded to 00002

Best regards
Paul

That’s interesting!😀

Is, I think, the soft coding you are looking at?

C00,Engine Control Module (J248) Coding
C01,00001 = Automatic Transmission
C02,00002 = Manual Transmission with Front-Wheel-Drive (FWD)
C03,00003 = Manual Transmission with All-Wheel-Drive (AWD)

Mac.

Yes on the A2 only 00002 & 00005 are available
No mention of what 00005 is for

How come some engines are coded with 00005?
Whatever 00005 is, it, maybe doesn't include the Aux Heating bits, if any one is stuck at 1, no Aux Heater.
Even more interested in Group 016, Block 02, on an 00005 engine.
Mac.

There does not appear to be any information from Audi about the ECU coding numbers. All i can think is the 00002 code is for "normal" cars and the 00005 is for hot countries that will never need auxiliary heating. There may also be other coding differences for fuelling etc.

There are only the two 00002 and 00005 which are accepted by the engine ecu in the 1.4 tdi
The maps on both where identical from the factory

00002 = FWD, Manual Transmission.
00005 = Similar to 00002
