A2 1.6 FSI headache

I guess it was the fuel pump. I replaced the fuel pressure valve at the same time, ater that I haven't had those terrible uphill hickups at all. The G83 and G62 (by mistake) were replaced because of the engine light was on, not the hickups.

Cheers

Hi

Would you have a part no for the fuel pressure valve?

I'm gonna attempt this at some point..

Thanks

I'm sure you can google the part number, I have to do the same, but I saved the picture of it:

It's easy to replace it, if needed.

My little A2 developed a new headache a few days ago. It started loosing power and stuttering when I tried to accelerate, so I had to turn it over to a garage close by.
They worked on it and found a couple of wires had shorted on a pressure sensor and corrected that but it still didn't run quite as it should.
They finally homed in on the high pressure pump as the culpit. It built almost no pressure and the engine ran on just the feeder pump.

Dang, that little thing is expensive. Cheapest I've found is 750 euros. . . that's almost the same as gold :p

THS...if you need a high pressure fuel pump then Yorkshirehill on here has one available from her car. It will be MUCH cheaper than 750EUR.
Please advise.

Sorry to hear about this headache, THS!
Hope you'll find a less expensive replacement.

chb's suggestion sounds good to me!

Cheers

@chb

Not sure if my reply to your message made it, so I´ll try here aswell :)

I´ll make a few calls over the weekend, I think I saw a new one for about half price some time ago.
If not I´ll get back to you. Thanks

Hi THS

Fuel pump from my FSI is available for sale for £130 inclusive of postage to Norway. Maybe helpful solution for you?

I'm interested in your high pressure pump, Hilary, if THS decides to look for other solutions.

Really? I think I´ll take you up on your offer then. (Sorry 6stings :) )

I don´t think I´ll be able to use the car as it is, so I may have to take the bus to work or perhaps hijack my dad´s Primera until the pump arrives :p

That's alright, THS, you need it more than I do. Mine is fine, I just thought about a backup.
Maybe you'll find out what went wrong with the old one?

Cheers,

OK Thank you THS. I'll sort this out as soon as possible for you

Ok now I don´t feel quite as bad :)

I´ll have a look at the old pump when I replace it and see if I can figure out what caused it to malfunction. Who knows maybe there´s an easy fix?

Hilary will have to wait for me I am afraid, unless Mr YorkshireHill fancies a crack at it! It needs a brake pipe spanner (10mm I think) to get the fuel line off (a normal spanner won't fit).
Then its just 3x 5mm hex bolts to remove (which are already loosened).

Oops! Sorry I misunderstood. I thought the part was already off the car. However Mr YorkshireHill says he'll have a go at removing it.
Will keep you posted THS.

Hilary

Can it be the one in the middle of the photo? I see some wires. Is it directed toward the front, kind of, with the pins directed to the rear?

Hi Darko,
I've a little question for you...
2 new fault codes appeared on my FSI
1st is 17690 (fuel metering valve N290)
2nd is 16500 (coolant temp sensor G62)

I had a quick look under the bonnet and found this (it's the N290):

Probably caused by a weasel.
So I suspect the G62 loom was attacked in a same way...
My question is, since you replaced that sensor, how difficult is it to reach the loom and to fix it ? (I mean soldering together the wires)
Thanks :)
Fabrice

Weasel has eaten the wires, that's not good :)

It should be easier to work on the wires, than to replace the G62, but disconnecting the wires from G62 is a problem because of the tight spot, if you don't move the pipes.
I looked for the sensor replacing procedure only after I did the job and the coolant pipes should be dosconnected to make space, which I did, but it would be 100 times easier if the EGR pipe was disconnected and moved away too, as the procedure described, but I didn't do.

So, move the coolant and EGR pipes and you have good space to pull the plug out.

The G62 wires come out of the wrapped wire loom at the front of the engine, they are not long from the loom to the plug, just long enough to reach.

Hope you'll eliminate the problem!

Thanks for the thourough reply, Darko :)
I've been away for the weekend and haven't had a chance so far to have a look at it. Will do it soon.
No chance reaching the sensor plug from below ?
