A2 1.6 FSI headache

Can it be the one in the middle of the photo? I see some wires. Is it directed toward the front, kind of, with the pins directed to the rear?

I couldnt find it either! It is there though, but very much hidden...

I found it and replace it with a new one!
Whoever managed to do this without removing anything, is either a magician, or a 3-year old, 'cause no bigger hand can pass through.

It took me almost 4 hours, with a 500w light over the engine, one flashlight taped to the EGR level and one flash light in my mouth.
1 hour to find it, 1 to remove it, 1 to put it back and 1 to put the crazy clip on. And plenty of scratches on both hands.

The easiest way to do this, is to disconnect the EGR pipe and the fat coolant pipe, those two block the way to the sensor.
I took the fat pipe off and moved it to side, than I could see the little green sensor and even take a photos of it.

Long story short: the green sensor is replaced - the coolant fault code 17699 is still on and the radiator fan is working all the time!!!

What other coolant sensors are there? Did I replace the wrong one?

The weird thing happened - the misfiring codes are gone!?

Thanks for the pics Darko. Will help me change my temp seal.

I have just changed my wifes Beetle temp sensor and it was a 5 minute job. Easy access and cured her car not getting upto 90* and she now has hot heaters.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1425665717.201534.jpg

Hope you'll do it with less bloody hands!

Just took a car for a test drive, no improvement to report, the temperature shows 90 degrees, but the engine sounds like cold, specially at under 2600 rpms. The radiator fan will probably burn working all the time.

Should I clip the red or the blue wire :)

Cheers,
Darko

Sorry if this sounds obvious but do you have digital climate control ? Is it turned on? If so that is why the fan is running -it runs at a slower speed when the air con is turned on either hot or cold.

Dont clip anything. Check which fuse it uses first. You may be able to remove that temporarily.

You need to have it fixed asap though...

I have and it's on, but the fan is running pretty fast as I can see. And it's starts running when I turn the key to middle position, don't have to start the engine.
I think it's running when the climate control is off too, but I'll check it again tomorrow.

Just deleted the codes again before I drove to the post office, 10 minutes drive, the engine light was back on after 5.

VCDS says 'Coolant temperature sensor at the radiator outlet', what's the radiator outlet?

Cheers,
Darko

I agree with Catnip64, G83 is the one that controls the fan and is located in the radiator bottom hose. No. 6 in this picture. The good news is that its a lot easier to change than the other one once you've drained the coolant.

Yes, and it is the two pin sensor I believe, not the 4 pin green one.

I agree with both of you a 400%!!!

Just finished reading ElsaWin and found out that the one I replaced G62 and not G83. Well, I guess I have to wait until Monday to find G83 replacement.

Learning something new everyday, but not without making a fool of myself :)

Thanks guys!

The manual says 'replace it fast to not to loose the coolant', but I guess the most of it would be drained.
I hope it won't be difficult to reach as the G83.
