Automatic light + Coming / Leaving home

All,

It's been mentioned previously in this thread that the kit causes the buzzer sound for lights left on when leaving the car. Does this happen with the switch at 0 and only the coming home function working, or does it only happen with the switch in auto?

Many thanks,

Matt. :)

If you leave the switch at 0 you don't get the coming home and leaving home function.

The buzzer is only sounded because the lights are on as you get out of the car, so no coming home lights means no buzzer,

But I don't have any problem with the buzzer because it only sounds when the door is opened when the coming home / leaving home lights are on.

It takes just a second or two to open the door and get out, so it really doesn't bother me.

Others who have valid reasons for having to leave the door open longer quite understandably don't like the buzzer.

Thanks birchall m, would be a nice touch on the van. Trouble is I'll probably keep locking them both so they both light up on the drive :)

Been considering this modification, but running HID,s unsure if it's a good idea, by rule i always refrain from turning lights on/off unless the engine is running after being informed this is the correct procedure.

Can this kit be used on side lights only so i can still follow my ritual?

I ran this kit with Bi Xenon HID's and the kit delays the headlamps for a few seconds, plenty of time to get it to fire up before the headlight kick in.

But I have never worried about switching on the headlamps before starting up to now?

I can't be sure but doesn't the car turn off the headlamps while the starter is cranking? AFter all these years I have never noticed, but it makes sense?

Hi Steve,

I'm pretty sure they are turned off as you say, yes. :)

I think the reason people say to turn the lights off when starting the engine is that in older cars with less complex electronics, this doesn't happen and so the battery voltage is effectively reduced for cranking.

Matt.

Yes, that is what I suspected, thanks for confirming that.

It is one of those very sensible, but not obvious design features of modern cars!.

I messaged the seller and they just said what the description says! I might take the switch out and see if it looks the same

I did buy this kit:

Can´t get the coming home or leaving home light to work, the auto works...

(from the first time did not even the auto work)

When you say your Auto works, do you mean that the dipped beams are off in day light? That means that you do not have the Scandinavian style connector where the 56 pin is bridged to the TFL and the dipped beams are always on.

If you Auto really works, you can try to set the CH/LH timer. With key in ignition but in 0...turn the headlight switch to AUTO and then go 0 - AUTO - 0 - AUTO really fast, and you will hear a long BEEEEP. If you want the CH LH to be 10 seconds have it BEEEEEEEP for 10 seconds and then back to 0. If you go back to 0 within 5 seconds, the CH LH function is OFF. Perhaps that is where you are now?

Cheers

By the way, CH/LH function is not very common here (at least not on cars of A2 age) because twice I have had friendly people running after me to tell me that I accidently left the lights on :)

Yes, that can be very amusing.

It has only happened a couple of times to me, but a quick shout of "they are automatic" does the job and you normally get a "sorry" reply

My car is a German A2 1,6FSi with kinda low specification on extras.
Have already added some lovely modifications and more are to come.
But this one are killing me.

When I'm going with the key in ignition and then go from "0" to Auto to "0" to Auto to "0" and then Auto agin it´s just a short beep and nothing else happens.
Do I need to do some wires to get it to work?
I have after installed the fog lights, so I was afraid something is wrong there but at least the rear or some lights should light up when I lock or unlock the car!?
And the fog light does work great so should not be something wrong with them, but right now I can't understand whats wrong.

I'm glad for all help I could get right now.
Thanks!

So... After some more tries and errors I finally got it to work!
BUT, it´s a but... No fog lights just the headlamps and of corse the rear once... So how to make it just fog lights in the front? :roll eyes:

Feels good to have You guys around and glad to be a member of this great forum.
Big thanks!

I assume you are trying in the dark, or with the sensor covered?

I think you should try turn the switch to AUTO. Turn the ignitition to 1. Go 0 - AUTO - 0 - AUTO rather quickly....wait 10 secs...then back to 0. That works on mine, which is the "newer" version without the jumper on the back to switch between headlights and fog lights which I think Särås would want.

Just discovered another thing about this headlight switch and my A2.

I apparently have headlight washer jets!! When I wash my window now I hear an electronic sound I have never heard before, and two washer jets pop up and sprays my headlights like mad. I hadn't the slightest idea that my A2 had this option :)

They don't pop up when the AUTO function has the headlights off. I wonder what could have caused and/or fixed this.
