Dip my A2 ( Purple!)

That's fantastic! Glad to see someone else has tried plasti dipping the whole car before I do! Love it - looks great. Colour isn't to my taste but the finish is amazing.

first job was my badges and second job was my rims. Third job will be the front emblem and then I'll go for either the roof / the whole car :)

You said it cost you £350?! Did you have it painted professionally? I summed up the cost of doing my A2 with genuine plastidip, geniune thinners, along with the Earlex HV3500 Spray gun and custom tips to £270. Maybe I've gone wrong somewhere. :/ Did you cover it in 7 coats? Or did you do a few more?

I did it myself but I used to do a bit of spraying.
the genuine plasti dip finish always looks a bit orange peely but I managed to get some gear which stretches out a bit when it dries which I think is better as its a kind of "silk" finish> I used an Earlex gun with a 2.0 nozzle. not quite sure what the genuine plasti dip is thinned with? but someone said its banned in the EU as being carcinogenic. yes it was about 7 coats but for colour changes you need to apply a colour block first which is usually white that bumps the cost. 5l of colour block, and 3x 5l of colour which is 4x £60=£240 plus gun £150 so £400 in total plus proper spray mask and tape. you need to peg the doors open with that round foam tape as well so the paint doesn't join the top seal to the roof or else you will have an untidy finish along the tops of the doors like I did!

Have you registered the colour change on the V5?
You should offer this as a service to other members!

because its a temporary colour change it is not necessary to notify it
I will be doing another one white soon for myself
and I would consider doing it as a service but I want to get really slick at it first

I wonder that, with spraying a car a different colour, there are so many places where the original colour is still visible? Like, when you open the doors, hatch or take the bonnet off? What can you do about that? It would be so very difficult to cover every part? I wonder what range of colours are available in this material? I can imagine that, if I were to do this, then I'd be choosing a really dramatic colour .... like lime-green! LOL! I don't think that I'd be going for pink, though! (but I do know of somebody who definitely would be going for that!) LOL!

yes you are right the door shuts are not done inside normally. You could do it if you wanted to spend more time masking up more thoroughly but as a "fun" product I don't think it matters as the final solution is to peel it off and do it again in another colour...

that orange A2 was one of the German club's members, he sold the orange-lined headlamps a few years ago on the forum. Can't remember the name, could look it up. At a guess, the pic is probably from 2006 or so. Why?
