Feeling like driving on ice

Thank you for your comments, I shudder to think what could have happened. I have seen today that the seller is no longer on Messenger (I wonder why) also I can’t find the advert on Facebook but I have a copy of the advert, recent conversation on messenger and I still have his address. After Christmas I will see what I can do about claiming for cost of repairs. I am thinking of buying new wishbones so that the old consoles, wishbones and bolts with be all together so that it will be easier to see the fault. Also the front wishbones bushes may have been damaged. Any recommendations on make of Wishbones? It has cast Wishbones fitted.

I would suggest that now you know of the fault any incident involving the car as a result of the poor workmanship would be seen as your responsibly as you have been made aware of it .

Speaking personally, I would go for Lemforder. You're only going to be buying them once. All the very best with sorting out the problem and fingers crossed for a satisfactory conclusion with the "miscreant" (Breath not held!)

May you enjoy your Christmas and look forward to the sunlit uplands of new front suspension.

Exactly that’s why I have left it with the garage, I am not driving it anywhere until it is fixed.

Please do get the garage to go right through and check the rest of the suspension and brakes at the very least!

Was the guy a trader who you got it from? If not sadly you will only have his good will to call upon as legally I think it's sold as seen, that's why it's best if possibly to buy from the forum as its a real camels trick to sell a faulty motor without disclosure to said faults and I would like to think no forum member would subject another to such a trick!

As said Lemforder are the cream of the crop, getting tdi ones is hard I think but the 1.4 petrol has been reported to work fine but one must decide for themselves!

thanks for your reply. I the guy I bought it from was on the Audi A2 owners group on Facebook but I can’t find him now. Just checked the map and he could be a member of this owners club but there is a yellow A2 storm around the corner from the previous owner in Tollcross Glasgow

And sadly............ there are exceptions to every rule. The fact that he seems to have disappeared speaks volumes.

Therefore, take note what has happened and just be cautious in this Glasgow area. As the perpetrators are not going to move on the strength of selling one A2.

Caveat Emptor…..

I think this is the only A2 he has sold. He was 18 months in restoring this A2 and he said this is his last car he is restoring. So we will have to see what it is like when I get it back ……….

Latest update. Finally I have the A2 back, the suspension has been done and the new console’s fitted but with Polo bushes. I don’t know if there is a difference between the bushes for the cast wishbones against the pressed steel wishbones. When asked why didn’t he change the bushes for the Audi A2 bushes which Euro car spares have in stock, his reply was some people ask too much. To get the bushes out would have destroyed the console’s, I asked didn’t he have a press to do it with the answer was no, I would have thought most garages would have one. The brake protector shields have not been fitted as the bolts have been snapped off and it would be too difficult. I thought I went to a garage not a Micky mouse outfit, also he has not looked at the starting and central locking not working when it is freezing cold even though he has had the car since 6th December, so I have taken the battery out and at the moment it is hooked up to my charger in repair mode which I leave for 16 hours and it will repair a battery. It is now booked in at another garage for wheel alignment checking and I have asked them if they can fit the brake protector shields. At least for now the car is back on my drive and not parked on a street.

Consider a new battery. The starting when weather is cold, and Central locking misbehaving are typical of low battery volts. A charger can't repair a battery that's past it. If it's more than five years old, and many are, it;s a suspect. Many on here have original batteries that lasted much longer, but more recent versions may not, times, quality, and quantity of expensive materials have been trimmed.
Mac.

Wow I'm speechless how the mechanic treat you and his responses. I did exactly the same jobs you had on my car but it took me 3 days to get one console out due the pivot bolt was seized up and I just kept soaking it heating it and moving ever so slowly up and down until it poped out without destroying threads. The brake disc dust shield same story there are 3 bolts and the bottom bolt on both sides just wouldn't budge lot of heat before it finally cave. I can see why they don't bother with jobs like this. I'm glad you are almost sorted. I think polo bushes are same except they got bit softer rubber a2 had bit harder rubber to give it bit more sportier ride.

Thank you for your reply. I used to be computer and printer engineer and some of the printer’s I had to repair were very difficult and in some cases had to improvise to get them working , I could not turn round to my boss and say that’s too difficult I had just to get on with it. So when a garage starts making excuses about jobs that are difficult I don’t understand because working on cars is their bread and butter and they should have equipment and experience to enable them to complete a job in a timely manner.

Or, explain that they can't/don't want to do it, before they start.
There are good ones about, but they are very busy.

There must be someone up there who can recommend a suitable expert on the black arts of A2. Huge sympathy with being so badly "mucked about" about by both garages and the wretched seller!

Who near Ayr can help?
