FSD group buy

Have you got any photos of yoru car before and after - interested to see what, if any, visable difference the lifting effect has, and on SE springs.

If/when i do this mod i would shorten the bump stops but as i have a large golden retriever who sits in the boot (and fills it with dog hairs lol),and 7 stone sat right at the back is a big lump,so i would go for the 30/00 but go for the sport rear springs just to lower it a bit so that would be 30/10

Cheers Phil

By the way, lovely Dog Phil!

Well you can't really see in the photo just how big he is but not come across any retrievers thats anywhere near as big, so thats why i would go for the 30/00 or the sport rear springs

Cheers Phil

PS he does look so sweet in that photo LOL

I'll take one tomorrow. Be interested to see the direct comparison myself...

Cheers,

Jon

By the way, I was driving again today and did the 'expansion joint test' - by that I mean there is a particular expansion joint on a bridge near my house (approaching Sainsbury's at Holywood Exchange from Bangor, for any NI folks on here) which used to always cause the metallic 'clunk' unless I went over it practically at walking pace. Used to annoy the wee out of me. Drove over it today at normal speed and not a peep! :)

So is there any progress on the putative UK group buy, or is it a complete non-starter as well?

I reckon it's down to individual buys, especially as the UK seems to be a way cheaper place to buy FSDs compared to, say, Germany.

I've got the same issue re 'clunking' driver's door. Being sorted, hopefully, by Lincoln Audi tomorrow. Will report back on outcome (££££££s).

Right ho - let's see what Mr Credit Card still has left on it...

Clunking door - let me know how you get on. I must fix it before my door falls off!

Can some kind person detail the part numbers of the recommended additional parts to change when doing the FSD/Weitec replacement - e.g.
top strut bearings
Bump stops
etc.

Hi Dan, see Schnelletrecker's helpful post on page 9 of this very thread... (post no.88)

UK price for Schnelletrecker's bits...

Audi Lincoln quoted me the following price for all the items in Schnelletrecker's list:

Price excluding VAT: £158
'Valued' customer discount: £15.80
Net price: £142.20
Price including VAT: £163.53

To fit the Koni FSDs + Weitecs, the VW/Audi Centre, Cleethorpes has quoted me a total price of £138.

Thats not bad as its suppose to be about 3/4 hrs to do so thats £35 an hr if it takes him 3hrs or there abouts. I've been meaning to check with the guy that services my car what he would charge if he would do it

Cheers Phil

Dan b re "Clunking door - let me know how you get on. I must fix it before my door falls off!"

Audi Lincoln have quoted £57.14 all in to sort my driver's side door check strap. Not bad when I compare it to the really bad news they gave me today when I had a diagnostic scan done by them. Fault codes came up re aircon indicating that 3 of the 4 air circulation flap control motors are screwed on my car. Total cost to fix is a bank -breaking £782.29 (needs whole dash to be taken out and a day's labour).

I'll now deffo have to keep my A2 for the rest of my natural!

Hey Alan sent you PM about climate flaps, and are any good with tools as the check strap is very easy to do and i do mean very easy its about £15 for the parts and about 30 mins tops if you take your time, and that would include making and drinking a cuppa lol

re. 4 wheel realignment

They reckon is not necessary as nothing will be done during FSD upgrade that will affect castor/camber/toe-in/toe-out.

If people here reckon it's essential, I'll make sure it's done.

Hi alanm
They are right.
It is however good practice to have an alignment check every few years but if your tyres are wearing evenly and the steering wheel is 'centred' then its a fair indication the geometry is currently within tolerance.
Checking the 'straight ahead' steering wheel position is the same after the suspension upgrade will be a good indicator that nothing has changed.

Cheers Spike

Thanks Spike.

A few months ago I had a realignment done as the steering wheel was tilted slightly down towards the right when the car was going straight ahead. Since then it has been dead level. If there is any change after the FSD mod, I'll get another realignment done. ;)

My A2 has a leaky rear shock, so I've been reading up on the Koni stuff. I see that the Koni kit fits;

AUDI A2 1.4, 1.6 FSi, 1.4 TDi excluding 1.2 3L TDi 2000>2005

SEAT IBIZA/CORDOBA 6L 1.2 12v, 1.4 16v, 1.4 TDi, 1.6, 1.9 SDi/TDi April 2002>2008

SKODA FABIA 1.2, 1.4, 1.4 16v, 1.6, 2.0 1.4 TDi, 1.9 SDi, 1.9 TDi Saloon/Hatch/Estate January 2000 onwards

VW POLO 9N/9N3 1.2 6v/12v, 1.4 16v, 1.4 TDi, 1.9 SDi/TDi November 2001>2008

Part No: 2100-4041

My question is that my friend has an 2008 Polo 1.2 as listed above, and his suspension is very plush compared to the A2. Can the Polo parts be fitted to the A2 to make the ride better? Why is the Polo's ride so much better if it uses the same size shocks? Do they have longer or softer springs? Can these be fitted to the A2?

Has anyone fitted standard replacement shocks from GSF or Euro Boge etc... and found any improvement?

Thanks for help, MOT due in May, so need to attend to this soon, and dont really fancy spending £700+ on FSD's.

Why is the Polo's ride so much better if it uses the same size shocks?
Probably due to the fact that the Polo is a steel shelled car and inherently more forgiving than the stiffer and more rigid shell of the aluminium A2. Possibly the Polo has higher profile tyres too that may improve comfort.
