Headlight Switch

Mine has no option for this.
Although it has a separate control box (hence not like the one from the link posted above).
The coming home function works only with the headlights. I would have preferred with the fogs...
Anyway, that's still a very interresting upgrade, for a small price.

I just received mine. I can't find any bridge connector anywhere that would make the coming- leaving home function using either the headlights or the fogs. Where would that be? I have not had time to fit mine yet, but I am hoping for it to be headlights only as I don't have any fog lights.

I know that the instructions are not quite readable but you should at least have a picture of the jumper position on them?

On mine it is at the opposite end of the control box when loking at your picture (the jumper is tiny and you should see it in one of the three or 4 slots)

I will try and find a link to the translated instructions.

No, the manual is a one-pager with pictures of the headlight knob in different positions. No pictures of any jumpers or anything.

There is nothing on the back of my control box. Will post picture shortly.

Perhaps you have one of the other kits. There was mention of a red wire, do you have a red wire that looks like it needs attaching to something?

I found a mention of that but it didn't apply to my kit, I didn't have to do anything about a red wire.

I suspect that this step (3) is what you need, but it is not 100% clear what they mean by the "Flashing light" I can only assume it means the headlight flasher positive? (i.e. the wire that goes from the stalk to the headlamps for when you flash someone (with your lights I mean!)

3. Red wire is the leaving home jumper and should be connected with the positive "+" of the flashing light. (Please do not connect to normal voltage, because otherwise fog lights and position light will constantly be on)

Can I ask for anyone who has fitted this other kit and used headlamps instead of gof lights, how you wired the red wire correctly please?

Well, there is a red wire but not sure I understand what to do with the instructions above :) First of all I will fit it, hopefully it works with the headlights from the default.

But did the CH LH function work on the headlights?
Yes, it works on the headlights.
I would have preferred on the fogs...

The kit is plug&play.
I have done nothing special with this red wire...

Thanks fbi and Birchall,

Will install when I have the time. As I said I want CH LH on the dipped beams, I wouldn't mind it using the mains also so I really can see where I am going and also find my car on the parking lots.

Just installed the switch, as said previously easy enough, plug n play.

However. When I leave the switch on AUTO and open the door, there is no beep which I had expected from reading in the other thread. Also, when I lock/unlock the car there is no CH LH function, the only difference I notice is that the side lights blink once when I lock/unlock the car. The didn't do that before.

Any suggestions? Should the warning buzzer not go off when I open the door in AUTO mode? And also, is there a ON/OFF setting somehow for the CH LH function which I need to turn on....or does it simply not work since I have no fog lights? I was hoping for the default being dipped beams since there are no jumpers on this control unit to switch between dipped beems or fog lights. Also, should the rear lights be lit with the CH LH function? I get nothing on mine.

Thanks

The buzzer should only sound if the CH/LH lights are on it won't buzz if no lights are on.

Mine defaulted to fogs.

So it sounds like you have auto headlamps but no CH/LH lights, but remember the CH/LH function only works in the dark!

Actually, I think I have bought 5ND 941 431 B.

I read somewhere on a forum that 5ND 941 431 A is the more expensive one, with the CH LH function. Is that right, and I have bought the wrong one? :(

I also read this somewhere on google: * Note: Coding with VAG-COM is required to enable specific features on certain models. Cars must be equipped from the factory with Coming Home for it to function on this switch.

I would have thought that only applies if you have just bought the switch rather than the kit with the conrol box. No VCDS coding should be needed because the control box handles all of that.

It is pitch dark here. When I turn off the ignition the headlights go off just like they did before. But when I turn the ignition to 1 and have AUTO, the headlights come on so it must think that it is dark enough for lights?

I guess there are three scenarios here, either (1) the CH LH function is working but only on the fogs which my car don't have, but then I think the buzzer should go off? or (2) this control box don't have a CH LH function at all, but I think that is strange or (3) the CH LH function is turned off somehow.

The rear tail lights should be on when the CH/LH function is activated, so if it is just due to the fact that it is set up for fogs, the rear lights should be coming on when the CH/LH is activated even if the fronts aren't coming on.

Thank you, that was my thinking aswell. That means the CH/LH function doesn't work.

I read somewhere that AUTO-0-AUTO-0-AUTO restores the default settings. I will try that later and see if it helps.

But I am understanding the function correctly? When in AUTO and pitch dark, I can turn off the engine and pull out the key and the headlights and rear lights should still be on, walk out the car with the buzzer sounding, lock the car and then the lights should come off after 10 sec or so?

Yes, that is basically it.

Probably a stupid question, but can't find the answer in the other thread. Where do I fit the control box, it is to large to go through the hole where the old control box went through as per the image below. I am guessing it should just be placed behind there somewhere, but how do I get it back there? I have removed the panel where the fuses are but I can not understand how the remove the larger panel to access the space behind the headlight switch? Please help.

Also, I tried resetting to factory default using AUTO-0-AUTO-0-AUTO as per the manual which sure enough made the thing beep. However the CH/LH is not working for me. The AUTO lights seem to be working, and the side lights blink when I unlock the car which they haven't done in the past so it is doing something. But when I turn the ignition ket to 0 all the lights are turned off even in AUTO when it clearly understands that it is dark out.

Thanks again.
