LED Headlight (H7) a strange little kit!!!

I thought the dipped/main bulb for the A2 was an H7? Do you have LED sidelights too?
Hi

I believe that they would have that.
I am getting a H3 kit fir my main beam as well as another H7 kit for my fogs.
So there are other bulb sizes.

What bulbs are the originals?

On the A2 dipped is H7 and the main bulbs are H3.

The fogs are also H7

Yes LED sidelights too

Aah ok. Very interested in how this goes keep us all updated.

I will do

So far the dipped beam LEDs have been performing well.

They are nice and white and bright.

I am using them more than I would normally to test them out thoroughly.

I am hoping to get the mains soon and the H7s for the fog lights. (They do a version with and LED on both sides of the bulb, so that you get a full beam on the fogs).

It will be a bit tight for space in the fogs but I think it will fit ok.

I will keep you posted.

How are you getting on with the LED headlamps Steve?

Hi Dan

Very happy so far.

I am just waiting for the main beam kit and fog kit so I can do a proper report.

But definitely liking them a lot at the moment.

One comment though, if you just want brighter headlamps then the replacement bulbs such as http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/H7-XENON-...ts=Car+Make:Audi|Model:A2&hash=item19e381348e
are much simpler and much cheaper. Less than £5 !!!

But if you do want LED headlamp bulbs then this kit I am testing out is great (although check the legality of such a kit, I am happy to use it especially as an MOT tester told me they would pass an MOT, but as people have pointed out, this is no guarantee that they are legal.

I have the halogens in the wife's A2 are they are much brighter than standard but check the legality again!!

Hi Steve
I have burned through several sets of the "extreme brightness" style halogens - yes they are a tad brighter, but that comes at the expense of longevity!
Are you saying that the LED kit is definitely brighter than standard halogen on dipped beam?
Very interested to learn of your full beam and fog light progress.

Hi Steve,

Hope you been well and the project car is coming along fine along with your (final) move. :)

I was thinking to give these bulbs a go but was wondering from your experience what the life span is? I usually go for the Philips BlueVision which suits me fine and tends to last over a year,at least.

Input appreciated

To be honest. We have the brighter bulbs fitted to our 4 A2s (so all except mine).
They work very well and are much brighter than standard but their life is occasionally shorter.
For example of the 4 cars two bulbs have gone in less than a year.
But they are worth it for the extra brightness and they are not too expensive to replace more often if that happens.

So I feel that the brighter bulbs are the best option.
The LED headlamps are just more of a gadget. I like gadgets and new options so they suit the project.
But for daily driver cars the cheaper brighter bulbs make sense.
The extra brightness helps with safety.

I've gone back to using "standard" bulbs. These so-called higher-output bulbs seem all very well, but they're not significantly much brighter (nothing like the gain you get going from halogen to Xenon HID for example), and the reduction in life-span is ridiculous - I don't think it's acceptable to have to be changing H7 bulbs every 6-9 months, which is what I was doing with the "extreme brightness" bulbs I used for a while.

I may yet try this LED kit idea though - Steve have you installed them in the main beam units as well yet?

Thanks for the info Steve ill give them a try as what I am looking for is that extra brightness..

I do agree with you Dan that changing the bulbs every 6-9months is something id rather not do however, Il give them a pop and if they start to become a regular occurrence i'l revert back to the BlueVision. However wouldn't mind trying the LED kit too (when me got the extra cash)

Thanks Gentlemen

I've been using the +70% brightness halford bulbs, each time they've lasted almost exactly a year (of course, it depends on how much time you spend driving in the dark).

Hi,

Not yet.

I ordered a set but they thought that it was H1 bulbs on the A2 and it is H3. SO it will take a little longer.

But I received the other H7 LED bulb kit that has an LED (SMD) on both sides (unlike the dipped beam H7.

I want to fit these to the fogs if I can get the kit to fit in the tiny space in the back of the fog housing.

I have had no problems with the life of the Ring Ultima 120's in my car.
They have been in for over 18 months with permanently lit headlights and are still going strong after 16,000km.

I'm gonna order these tonight and give them ago, the 2014 model seems to have a built in fan and a bit more powerful at 36W a bulb, (72W total), will update once i have them fitted =)

Hi

The H7s are fine and easy to fit and I like the white light and better output.
The H3s look at first glance to be impossible to fit, there just doesn't seem to be enough room, but if you remove the indicator bulb cover and the positioning motor, the bulbs do go in and clear everything (Then replace the positioning motor and indicator bulb holder, of course). BUT the "tang" on the wire bulb retainer needs to be filed down or bent. The bulb doesn't quite go all the way home if you don't do that.

The effect is good and I am happy with them though. But at £70 or do for the dip and main beam they are good value but not cheap.
