New wheels but what tyres?

'Back in the day' we would have the rear arches rolled when this occured, but that doesn't really apply to the A2's plastic arches. What about removing the rear arch lining? Option B which is also much more fun is to get all passengers to lean into the corner around bends to balance the weight :D

I don't often have that much weight in the car so I think I'll live with it for now :) hopefully it will wear away by its self!

Hi guys and girls

I know it is an old thread. I just want to give an update on the cheap Landsail LS988.
As mentioned previously, they are noisy.
Furthermore they are rubbish when the road is wet. The last time I felt unsafe in corners when it rains was with the Pirelli p6000 that I had back in 2004.

I think I will go back to Continental. Or if someone as tried the Landsail LS588. They are as cheap as the LS988 but have better ratings.
All info welcomed.
Cheers

Mine had the Landsail tyres on when I got it and they were all nearly new, they were horrendous, noisy and handling was shocking they pulled. I wouldn't let my wife drive the car. Changed them all two days later even though they were nearly new. Put Falkens on which I have used a lot and it transformed the car so much more predictable and as you would expect the car to be.

Iv done nearly 2000 miles on my landsail tyres now (mine are the ones with the good ratings) and I can't fault them, the a2 isn't a racing car so you shouldn't notice much difference between tyres unless you really push the car, and out of curiosity I have done a few times. My tires are near silent so no faults there, wet grip has been perfect I haven't crashed my a2 yet and grip in general can't be faulted for tyres that cost £140 for a set of four on 17" tt comp wheels. Iv gone around bends very quickly and they've held to the road perfectly fine, again I haven't crashed it yet! And Iv not changed my driving any different to how I did when I had 16" with continentals all round. Some times the price of a tyre can mess with your head and Iv now experienced budget tyres twice, once on my boy racer Peugeot 106 I bought brand new wheels and budgets came with them and to be honest never thought twice about tyres then, I drove that car like a lunatic and a stunt man! it was my first car and I was 17 and had no accidents and now Iv experienced budget tyres again but for the 1st time on my a2 but I'm a more sensible driver now. So what I think is if you put it in your head cheap is evil then that's what you'll believe. A few people have said encluding garages that budgets are perfectly fine unless you have a high powered car or your doing track days - fast road driving. I believe it's you that keeps your car on the road not your tires. But if you've got the money to spend on branded tyres then spend it.

Hi
I have done between 500 and 700miles a week since I installed the 17". I really don't like the Landsail LS988. I have had Michelin when I got the car, good but expensive. I had Pirelli P6000, absolutely rubbish! and the best so far were the Continental, good but not cheap (£70-£75 each). All these were 16".
I only found the Landsail LS588 in the size 215/40R17 at £43 each. I have checked the size and it is not too badly influencing the tachometer (0.5-1 mile/h)
I don't really want to waste the tires so when the LS988 are used, I will probably get the LS588.
I will keep you posted.
Cheers

I was using Hankooks on 195 45 16's and found them to be excellent. Just got some new alloys and the tyres on that are 185 45 16's however I'll be honest I prefer the 195's as the ride is just much more comfortable so will swap them over

The difference in comfort must be due to the different tyre make or tyre pressures because there is virtually no difference in rolling radius or profile (the 195s are 0.15 of an inch smaller - i.e. lower profile, which is a tiny amount) than the 185s.

It does go to show you that tyre comfort is not just about the profile of the tyres, it is more about feel, and if you feel they are more comfortable then that is all that matters.

I've been so carful, I stick my head out the window and watch it along th curb as always but then I thought I'd go forward a little and crunch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is at times like that when "Oh Dear" isn't quite strong enough!!!

It is a horrible feeling when it happens, but "spilt milk" and all that. I am sure that you will sort it out.

The sound of your alloy being kerbed is up there at the top of my most hated noises. Bad luck mate.
