New wheels but what tyres?

I know what you mean Steve - ive ordered from "Mytyres" before, (no problems i hasten to add), and taken them to my local tyre ftter. They dont like this add will load on a hefty fitting and balancing price so in the end you dont save very much.

My friendly tyre fitters charge me around £50 to fit and balance a set of tyres, £20 or less to swap a set of wheels that have tyres already on (Believe me I have had many visits to them recently, trying to get the right look on my A2.). But they do a fantastic job and have never marked any on my shiny new wheels!

Yes,

The way they operate is that when you order your tyres they send them to a local garage to you that fit tyres. So you are doing your bit for the smaller independents in your area too.

I have used them a lot and sometimes I just prefer to have them delivered so that I can get my preferred local tyre fitters to put them on for me.

But many of the larger tyre fitting companies won't fit tyres that they didn't supply!!!!

My local tyre place told me that if I get a quote from the blackcircles type of places that do an "all in" deal, they'll beat it as they have to pay the 3rd party anyway..

So get your quote, then phone the fitting place direct and see what they can do ;)

yes, hat is always worth a try!

I had a set via Blackcircles and the local tyre fitters put them on as good as gold.
He told me always to ring him to see if they could match the on-line price before committing to buy on line.
I've always done that since, and he has always managed to match or beat on winter tyres for the A2, tyres for the Freelander, my R32 and my wife's Alfa.

It does mean a phone call, but he gets to keep the margin in a local business that way, which I quite like.

I bought some plastic centre caps for my wheels because the old ones were metal and badly corroded before I repaired them and I had to glue them back together and wasn't happy that I glued them in the right place and didn't want to risk damaging the wheel. So here they are

I then got some stickers for them, I wanted something audi and with red in it and these were all I could find. I'm not too happy with them the print quality isn't great!

And on the caps

And on the wheels...

Like the look it's just a shame the print quality wasn't great. They look fine as long as you don't get to close.

Still no tyres yet :(

The origional and glued part

I wasn't happy I got them dead centre!

As you say, the label ratings are very good, but I have never heard of that make, but these days there are MANY tyre companies that I have never heard of !!

Price is good !!

But you are right to ask if anyone has tried these.

If you google "Landsail" tyres Scott there is quite a bit of information to read through. Intitial feedback reports "very good in summer but poor in winter." I cant comment on them because i ve never heard of them either.

Thank you, ill have a read but I think I'm going to go for these, it is nearly summer and I don't drive the a2 like a mad man so it should be ok.

Sorry for my constant un decisiveness throughout this thread! Thanks for all your help

No need to say sorry - its no wonder we have all become slightly confused with any potential purchases because there is so much flippin choice now !. :)

...... in all honesty prior to buying "merlin" last month i had never heard of "khumo" or "toyo" buts that what i have fitted. I,m told they are a reasonable quality tyre and, having done a bit of research, i am happy with them. Not many moons ago i would have always bought Michelin or Continentals regardless of cost.

I have bought them, they will be here Tuesday :) so should have the wheels on by wednsday or Thursday. For the last thew months I have been obsessed with tyres, looking at what cars on the roads have on them I saw a vw transporter with a set of Nankang all round yesterday. It was a cheap brand I had been looking at for a while (£184 for four) so I was going to buy them yesterday but then come across these. If a tyre wasn't reasonably safe surly it wouldn't be allowed to be sold here? I'm a dad with two children and a sensible driver I will just have to drive within the limits of the tyre rather than pushing the tyre past its limits! The tyre stickers ratings are good and apart from a small handful of bad reviews all the rest are good.
I'll be finding out soon for my self now anyway.

I ordered these tires, Vredestein Ultrac Cento 205/45 ZR17. My priority was comfort and low noise. First time I made that priority, I blame my aging body, I don't dare to blame the car.

Hi guys

I find bizarre that the Landsail LS988 has ratings E for petrol use, C for rain handling and 71dB. And then the LS588 is C, B, 68dB.
I think that is the make of tyres I have on my new wheels. I will check later.

The tyre were just deliverd, well two of them! The delivery company Cocked up the delivery I'll get the other two tomorrow.
The tyres look pretty good tho when Ive fit cheap tyres you can usually tell they are cheap but thes feel and look pretty good.
Nice tread pattern too.

Now Iv been phoning tyre places to fit them as I no longer work at my old job so can't do it myself! :( eastbourne tyres wanted £25 a wheel! And quick fit (tho I don't like them but thought I'd try after the 1st quote) said "we only fit tyres if we supply them" fine your loss you'd probably damage something anyway! And my 3rd quote was with elite garages and the said £16 a wheel ( not bad but could be better :(... ) but can't do them until Friday, I don't really know eastbourne that well so I'll have to have a drive for some others to see if I can get better prices.

Last company called Merrit Tyre fitted mine and that includes balancing and new valves for £60 and that is a fair price.
