New wheels but what tyres?

Yes, dont buy any cheap ditch finders and read the reviews. I was looking for tyres for the wifes Beetle and decided not to go too cheap and have settled on a set of budget Falken Ecorun which are rated really quite good for the price. £170 for four.

I currently have budget tyres on mine that were newly fitted before I bought it. Since I do such low mileage it will be a long time until I wear those out, but they will probably be replaced with Michelin's as Ive always felt they rode well, wore well, gripped well, and werent too expensive.

I swore by Falken FK452s for many a year. As good a review of toyo proxes, at £75 each. 225/40 18. Excellent tyres.

It's surely a false economy to go budget unless you're confident they can provide the same lifespan as a decent 'name' tyre (or are planning to do low mileage and/or sell your A2 soon). In my experience, budget tyres are a lot noisier with poorer rolling resistance, and one occasion, a slight low speed contact with a kerb caused chunks of tyre to be gouged off! Shop around and you may be surprised at the good deals out there.

When I was looking for an A2 recently, any private seller that had put "linglong ditchfinders" on was nearly always dismissed. I bet the hare that ran out in front of me appreciated the Bridgestones getting round him this morning!
Nine times out of ten the budget ones last a while as they are rock hard providing very little grip making the everlasting P6000 look soft.
You'd be surprised how many people put crap tyres on - my O/H looked at a TT with "Sunew" all round. Don't think the smart salesman appreciated us laughing at them in disgust lol

For a light car then Toyos, Uniroyal Rainsports and other mid range tyre makes are fine if you're on a budget.

Always worth a read here for real world opinion on various tyres:

I'm thinking of making my 16"s ott winter wheels with winter/off road tyres?? Is there an off road or real Chucky tyre or snow tyre that will fit it? I Was going to sell the wheels but Im thinking of painting them either white or a frozen blue couler or doing them "urban camo black white red and drake grey" this I think will look good with off road tyres. Off road tyres will be good for me because I park on the beach a lot and could benifit that and would look cool on the a2, and the reason for keeping them as winter wheels is I read a2's with my tt sized 17s struggle in snow and the thing I loved a thew years back was when it did snow heavily in the south I got from eastbourne to London in it when it was at its worst and they were closing roads sending me down country roads with untouched snow above the ankle! It was a lot of fun and the a2 dealt with it brilliantly!

My fronts are getting bald on the inside edge now on my 16's so need to get some for the new 17's asap, just got a price for some "hifly" tyres. £30 plus vat each! Anyone ever used these? This has come at a time when money is not great so the cheaper the better! But the next price I got was for hankooks at £56 +vat but this is pretty expensive for me at the moment!
Any experience feed back would be much appreciated on the hifly tires.

Thanks

Scott

Iv been looking at nankang tyres, just under £200 for the set and all reviews are pretty good, the only bad comment that keeps coming up is that they are noisy.
Any experience on these? Falken's are looking ok too?

Thanks, are they good at fitting? They are going on newly refurbished wheels! What do you think of falkens oh wise one ;)

That's the size I'm after.

HI,

You will need to ring them because that price is a "from" price and they might have to search for the size you want if they are not in stock.

Basically Black Circles only sell the tyres, they don't fit them, but what they do is to use tyre fitters in companies all over the country to fit them for you (included in the price) or cheaper if you just want them delivered to your home.
.
I have had some great deals from them in the past.

As for Falkens I have had several cars with them on and had no problems ever.
