Pretty gutted :(

As much as I would love to own a members car my budget won't really reach for one at the moment anyway. I have found one, it's 2004 but it has same mileage as mine which is putting me off.
Paul don't get hung up on miles-condition and service history is prime.

True. It has 7 stamps and looks in good condition. It's a 1.4 petrol colour storm in red and looks very tasty. I would have to put black leather in it though so possible exchange with my red leather perhaps.

Sorry to hear about your mis fortune, i had my A2 in the garage some years back and the cross member holding the springs for the up and over door snapped leaving the door on my bonnet  Got it painted at work (no insurance). One thing to note now your not going through the insurance the labour cost will be less as they hike the price up when you say "insurance" which is another reason why cars are wrote off

Sorry to hear this mate, I'm surprised that they classed it as cat c and not cat d when it's only cosmetic?

Did I miss something if the repair quote was £1200 and they valued it at £1880 why didn't they just repair it?

The quote was £2200 but if you see the damage you wouldn't think it would of cost that much .

Sorry to hear that mate, as Mike has said I'm sure we will be able to come up with some very cheap solutions when we see it at AITP7

All it needs is a little man in a little back street garage somewhere that knows how to make a spray-gun sing!

Some of us may wince at that! Audi has a good reputation for a quality paint job and I think most A2OC members would want to match that in a repair. But it can be difficult to find a quality and reasonable cost repairer.

A few years ago I had small damage to the front corner and impacting both the wing and bumper on my A2. First quote was from a VW dealer with modern premises. I think they quoted about £900. They wouldn't let me even see their paint shop (H&S they said) as I was keen to verify cleanliness and if they had ovens to get a hard paint finish. I was also wary of them outsourcing .....

I then went to various local repair garages and all were cheap at £100-£200 but grotty and messy premises (e.g. Nissan huts and 1800s buildings) and using 3 bar electric fires. They had lots of vehicles in and admitted they did lots of work for dealers who wanted quick (and cheap) repairs before selling cars on their forecourts.

Still not had the job done. I may buy a modellers miniature spray gun and touch up myself as that would preserve the 98% of the original paintwork on the wing and bumper.

Well £280 would be a result but do you have a £200 excess because they will then deduct from your payout.

But if not that's a result. I think if it were me I would not get another one and pay out and get this one sprayed and mint but it is a tough one to decide what to do foe the best.

Sorry to hear your bad news Paul. Perhaps an ideal time to change to diesel (not a plug, mines a 5 seater).

In terms of continuing to use yours, I'm pretty sure that once it's been declared cat c you can't use it on the road again until its had a vic check.

a great opportunity to get a well looked after a2 and a great price :) btw is this the same colour as yours? if so, then this is a win win for you paul albeit slightly more out of pocket but im assuming when you get yours either fixed etc... you will recoup the money back with some spare change left over.

hope everything goes to plan :)

The excess is £150 which isn't bad really;, I have been thinking about getting mine repaired but with A2 prices being low this gives me a great opportunity to get a lower mileage tdi and then transfer all the goodies on to it .

I had to have my tt repaired recently. £300 for bodywork. £300 for badges at dealers prices. Ridiculous.

I hope you come out ahead.
