Project LNO

So I’m trying to fit one of these as an interim before the quality kit goes in:

Audio Bluetooth Wire Adapter, 20pin/8pin Bluetooth 5.0 Audio Adapter Radio Connector Car Stereo Fits for Audi A2 A3 8L 8P TT https://amzn.eu/d/90PaqOH

All connected up fine, but the head unit can’t pick it up. Do I need to code in a CD changer?

Right we’ll I should have done some research on here before buying that piece of crap.

Correct item now ordered from Musikimauto.de

Ah you’ve go to love a car with a mind of its own.

LNO has today decided that it will recognise when the driver’s door is open, and it will let me use the B pillar button to open the fuel filler flap.

I wonder what surprises tomorrow will bring?
Mine does this if the car has been washed recently!!

Check the codes first, changer is enabled in mine, but I've never had one.
The Installation II code on mine is 00003. 2=changer, 1=diversity. 2+1=
Instalation I is radio setup, and will be OK as is.
Mac.

A couple more steps today - the quadlock phone mount and charger are fitted, wired in and working, result.

And the plastics inside have had a good wipe down with FinishKare 425, so looking a bit more respectable.

A Depronman EGR landed in the post today, but that will have to wait until the door locks are done.

And the rear shocks seem to be held together with rust, so they’ll need to be replaced soon.

And the postie delivered the correct, interim Bluetooth music solution.

All the way from Germany in just two days:

It takes seconds to pop the radio out with the tools provided, then about 10 mins to find a torx small enough to fit one of the radio chassis screws so I can attach the earth lead.

Then pop it all back in and bingo - we have DAB, podcasts, audio books and all my music streaming perfectly.

And it reminds me just what a good sound system the bog standard one is. So I can’t wait until the Bose is fitted, that will be astonishing.

Evening Simon,

Sorry for jumping in so late but I missed this thread until now. This is an awesome start to the suggested long thread. Looking forward to all the updates as these kind of informative developments are always a great read.

Good luck with this one, Dolphin Grey is a cracking colour.

Kind regards,

Tom

Thanks Tom

Not at all! Yes this will be a long one, and I’ll no doubt chop and change direction.

For example after talking to Timmus I was going to stick with the original Concert head unit driving the Bose he’s going to fit, thereby avoiding the whole double din dashboard upgrade.

But, having had the car a few days and now spotted a bit of damage on the dash, and a slightly tired head unit, I figured in for a penny etc.

So I now have this excellent RNSE

And I’m on the look out for a good double din dash. [mention]A2Steve [/mention] is on the lookout for one, if anyone else out there has a good one do let me know.

I also have the Audi MMI, but I think I’ll go with the Bluetooth connectivity that Timmus recommends. But that’s for another day.

Which leads me to the next challenge - I’ll need some guidance on how to trim the RNSE to fit, [mention]2works [/mention] I’ll start a separate thread in the Improvements, In Car Entertainment page.

Hello Simon,

I have a few pictures which will certainly help out with the reshaping if your RNS-E PU with its A3 fascia. I have them on my phone ready to go but happy to wait for your separate thread Sir.

If you’re going the RNS-E route then I can highly recommend the Audi Music Interface (AMI) as it will provide a reliable perfect clarity streaming solution that will be far superior than any aftermarket Bluetooth option. It’s a peripheral that was designed to integrate and work in harmony with the RNS-E; it really is the very best option.

The Audi audio engineers (or their partners) produced it after many many hours of development opposed to so some third party cheap module you’ll find on Amazon or eBay. The choice is yours but if you keep your eyes peeled you can grab a bargain.

Don't forget to monitor the below thread where I occasionally add links to such bargains:

Kind regards,

Tom

Thanks Tom - that is a really informative thread - I’ll add to it as I go.

A bit more progress at Nin Towers.

The dog guard arrived today, thanks [mention]Proximo [/mention] that was one of the best packed items I’ve ever text.

Fitted in seconds:

Then managed to fit the replacement drivers door locking mechanism. I wasn’t looking forward to it but was in fact a very straightforward affair, taking about 2 hours in total. Mainly because I’d never done it before. The next one should be much quicker.

So I now have a functioning fuel release button!

And finally I managed to sort the Mia-reading fuel gauge. You can’t really see in their pic, but the arrows were just a teeny bit mis-aligned and the gauge wouldn’t read above half full, even though I knew it was full.

A quick twist on the sender unit to line them up and bingo! I have a full tank again.

Enjoying seeing your new acquisition getting fettled and coming together in this thread.

Just a note, the [mention][/mention] BB code doesn't seem to work on this site. If you want to tag someone, put an @ in front of their name e.g. @Proghound.

Getting ready for a busy weekend.

And a quick coat of high temp satin black helps keep the rust off the drums.

And while the car is on ramps, I’ll be liberally spraying this stuff around to help keep the non-aluminium bits from further decay.

Well that was a long day. But mostly worth it.

The car has a full service: oil, filters and fluids. And I fitted the shiny Depronman wiper arm, as well as some new Monroe shocks on the rear, and some new drums.

All very good ...

But.

I took the EGR off, cleaned and replaced it.

Now I’m barely getting any boost at all, and the cars not throwing any codes. Weird. Any thoughts?

Some gratuitous pics

Boost issue after the egr was removed must be linked to the vacuum pipes. Have a look one at a time at the ends of the pipes on the valve to the right of the egr, n75 valve. This is a tdi 75 amf isn't it? The boost pipes are plastic until a few inches from the ends then they're rubber wound in threads. Best replace as many as you can with silicon hoses. If the egr pipe is open to the air\split this may be causing an issue, it needs to be air tight of course.

Thanks Crispy - yes its a 75 hp AMF. That’s where I’m thinking too! No evidence of an intercooler problem and I was messing around behind the valve cluster getting the heating air duct in and out.

Silicon hose to the ready!
