Project LNO

Right, done all that and re fitted the EGR to make sure it was sealing properly.

No hissing from the intercooler, all hoses look fine. But still no boost.

When I was working on it yesterday I had to drive it off the ramp without the charge pipe connected.

Obvs it threw a code which I just deleted after I had refitted everything - but wondered if there is some kind of reset I need to do?

Here’s what VCDS Lite is giving me:

Yeah, no boost, I know. But running through all the component tests isn’t throwing any faults. And checking the EGR - the flap is open.

Confused of Abingdon …

BTW I have also replaced the air filter yesterday. A simple old one out, new on in, no messing. But wondered if that were possible to dislodge something?

Some of you will have seen my thread in ‘Servicing and Repairs’ on this sorry saga.

I’ll pause work on this little car until I’ve got to the bottom of the boost issue. Then we’ll make a decision about its future.

Disappointing because I paid top dollar for a low mileage car that has done no more than throw up continuous problems, while my 150k mile Akoya just runs and runs.

Hey ho, caveat emptor and all that.

Well you might have been following my lack of boost woes on the maintenance thread.

Rob and Marcus at WOM have been both helpful and patient in equal measure.

We’ve decided that texts and phone calls won’t solve this, and Marcus needs eyes on.

And I’ve decided I’ve done all I can lying on my back in my driveway.

So it’s off to see the wizards at WOM.

They can fit the MYP gearbox while they have it.

We’re back in the game.

Rob and Marcus took little LNO under their wing. First issue was to sort the turbo. It was this:

It must have dropped down the EGR exhaust connector and lodged in the vanes. Allowing them to turn about 270deg but no more.

So off come the turbo and away to TurboTechnics it went for a rebuild. They confirmed the damage to the shaft wheel on the exhaust side and the bearings were also damaged too.

So now its had new bearings/seals, shaft wheel and also the waste gate bush was worn so that has been replaced.

Then I found a nice MYP gearbox in eBay, and got that shipped over to Stoke. It went off to be skimmed, and was refitted with a new starter and clutch. The timing belt left was done at the same time as it was due.

The wishbones needed changing because the ball joints where a bit flaky, and of course the wouldn’t come off nicely so the subframe consoles and bushes were replaced too.

Along with a Depronman map we now have a working motor. Which drives superbly, it has practically new suspension and brakes throughout as well.

A couple of weeks ago, Craig messaged me that he had some alcantara sports seats coming - so without hesitation I snapped those up.

I picked them up on Weds heading home from work, and got to fit them today - very comfy and very pleased.

At the same time I picked up a double din dash, and some door cards, and dropped off my RNSE-PU for Tom to work his magic. That’ll be a post Christmas job.

And Colin dropped off some pepper pots that got Bridgestone Blizzaks fitted, and are now gracing the car. Just in time.

Wow thats anew car alright! did you say head skim too?

Next task is to see if I can fix the Webasto, which is behaving oddly (see ‘Webasto weirdness’ thread).

Oh yes the best seats! THose tyres maywell have come from me to colin, good old club this!

Those seats are lumbar too - so a bit more wiring required to get them fully functioning.

I’ll be heading to see Northern Tom for a Bose retrofit once the new dash and RNSE are in, I’ll add that to the list.

I'm rather impressed with all that, looking forward to the next instalment. Keep up the good work, well done, indeed.

All the best.

Had some time yesterday to investigate the Webasto - it’s all running fine but just not firing up. I suspect the combustion chamber and glow plug are all gummed up (as they were in my old SII Landrover.). So I’ll need to get that out to investigate.

To help out I replaced the Thermostat, confident that would give me a stable 90 degrees, and cure the problem of it ranging from 60-90 depending on whether I was pottering or not.

Of course it didn’t.

Thanks A2Works Tom for your post on my RNSE for sale thread - awesome! Just need a nice dry day before Xmas to get the double din installed …

Afternoon Simon,

If you don’t have the dashboard swapped before you’re collecting the head unit then stick it in the back of the car and I’ll see if I have the time to assist you. It’ll take a few hours but you could easily be driving home with your fully prepared RNS-E providing both the tunes and navigation.

I’ll have the tools at the ready!

Kind regards,

Tom
