The Cobalt dream machine.

Good and bad news this one. Got the car back after an overnight stay at the Alloy wheel refurbishers early this evening, alloys looking great with 4 new Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 2 tyres. Went to put petrol in and the fuel flap switch has decided to give up the ghost. I'm just wondering if it's possibly a fuse as both switches on the B pillar are no longer illuminated? Any help greatly appreciated.Cheers Mark.

Hi,

It is more likely to be the door microswitch not registering that the door is open.
Does the dash illuminate and the interior light come on when you open the door?

Thanks Steve and emsamk. :) I looked in the handbook and found the bit about manually opening the flap so was able to fill with petrol thank god,as the car was breathing on fumes. It was Siberian temps out there and i found it extremely difficult to release the boot cover trim with just fingers.

Thanks Steve, you seam to be dead right on this one. It's a weird one, went out with the car last night and after a few hundred yards decided to check if the dash display would illuminate with the door open. Nothing at all and of course no B pillar lights. I tried again about 2 miles down the road and the dash showed the door open and the b pillar light were on.Yes.......... i thought and the flap opened via the button perfectly. I can't see any switches on either the A or B posts so can only assume there's a switch on the door strap somewhere inside the door. Has anyone got a pic of this? And is this a common thing and not just because it's freezing out there? Cheers.

Just to edit, initially the interior light came on but no dash illumination.

I'm currently hot,it's 25 degrees out there and i'm getting hotter under the collar trying to deal with the rear seats.

I want to clean the leather seats on my workbench in comfort but i'll be darned if i can figure it out. I've managed to remove the rear seats but now would like to open them up? I'm hoping someone sees this quickly as i've already wasted a lot of time today. Cheers.

Put your knee on them from the back and lift the handle release as you would to take them out.
The rear bench works differently.
I think you will need to press in the two black plastic mushrooms next to the two silver locking pins in the centre part of the seat base and that should release the back.

Thanks for there quick responses chaps. I drifted of to (CA) and remembered to come back and check if i had an answer. I.m not sure what's happened but when i saw your pic (Birchall) i pressed the 2 big silver plates/washers down on the huge locating pins on the rear of the base seat and each time i got a click. This seamed to do the trick. I'm a happy bunny again and can clean to my hearts content. Thanks again chaps! :):)

I was a happy bunny but now i can't get the rear seats to engage with the holes in the floor pan. This is what it looks like right now after i pushed the big discs down to get the seats to open up for cleaning. Can anyone help? Cheers Mark.

The condition that they are now in is how they would be when engaged in the floor. They need to be released before you can push them into their location holes.(this has happend to many of us at some time, quite often just on one of the pair) You could try pulling in the handle but from what I remember you cannot get enough leverage. The usual technique is to put them in the car as if you are simply putting them back, then with your full weight on the folded seat pull on the release handle until the latches release. Only after they release will your weight allow them to push home and click in place.

Good luck

Geoff

She's starting to look better.

Since we've owned the car i've not really had the chance to polish and clean the car what with winter and the Mrs using it all the time. We had a week down is Swanage just recently so had the time and the car was available to give here a good clean and polish up.The alloys were powder coated back in January, and i'm very happy with the result especially as they were well overdue.
