The Welsh social - A jolly around the Welsh mountains

Hi - I have finally stopped faffing about and booked myself into the Travelodge at Merthyr on the 25th and 26th. I'm so looking forward to having a trip 'home'

Good news Teresa. As long as the weather is kind we should all have a good day.

If it were further North I'd have been tempted, but bit of a run out for me to South Wales, if you happen to arrange one in North Wales around the Snowdonia area I would be happy to help out with a route etc...my local stomping ground.

Hello fellow aluminium lovers.

It's just over a month to 'The Welsh Social' so I think it's time to get some details finalised.

Those confirmed as attending are:

Me
Darren C,
Birchall,
2Work,
Scirrocorrado x 2 cars
Murdo,
MrBroons,
Sarge
DJ190
Alanb
Trevorswaine
Alan_uk
Tobecomecarrion

Terrywindy1
Putyourmittenson
Chronus7
chumsofmanutd
Teresa

being the 20 cars I've limited it to for safety reasons.

Please can I ask that if you have changed your mind that you let me know either via this thread or pm etc as there may well be others who would like the space.

The meeting point is going to be Asda Superstore Merthyr Tydfil and the address is Dowlais Top, Merthyr Tydfil CF48 2YF.

I would like it if everyone can aim to be there by 10am for a 10.30 start.

We'll then have a 10 minute or so journey on dual carriageway to the start of our more scenic route.

The whole drive from the meet up point to our end point should take no more than 80 minutes. A length of time I felt was neither too short or too long. Depending on how we are progressing we may well stop 2/3rds of the way around for a break although there are no toilet facilities during the 80 minute journey so Asda at the start will be your best bet :)

Our end point and the location for our pub lunch (not compulsory for you to eat :)) will be The Nant Ddu Lodge

They serve lunch until 2pm and usually only cater for up to 25 so have asked us to arrive around 12 to ensure that everyone is served. Their menu isn't the cheapest but its a lovely location and the only pub/restaurant in the area who can accomate 20 A2's parking in their carpark together.

After everyone's had the opportunity to have something to eat, depending on the mood on the day there's the opportunity for us to move on to Cyfartha Castle Museum and Gardens for more group photo's and an opportunity to take in some local history.

I'll be bringing along some 2-way radios and a megaphone incase something goes wrong. Can I have a VOLUNTEER to take up the position of last car and carrier of the second 2-way radio who can stay in communication with me at the front if there's any issue along the way?

Thanks for sticking with the long read :)

If there's anything else anyone would like to know, please feel free to ask.

Anyone coming got a drone camera? (on my wish list - one day :)) got to be worth using it here! :)

Hi Steve, I can offer to stand in reserve to be the last car if no one else wants to do this :)

Sarge

Thanks Sarge. I would love to be the last car as I woild imagine 20 A2's in a row will be a good sight. Seeing as I'm the only person who knows the route I'd best go infront :)

I have a couple of radios Steve. If any use, I can bring one or both, tune into your frequency and take up a central position. I'm not sure of the range mind.

Did two tin cans and a piece of string ever work Darren. We must have convinced ourselves that it did when we were kids. :)

I though I was still down for this. Hey ho. I hope you have a great time.

i now have a free weekend for an i3 extended test drive.

Sorry Chris, I had you on the awaiting confirmation list for a about 6 weeks but didn't want to push you. Would you still like to come? I'm sure someone will cancel at some point so no harm in having 21 down as coming.
