Chat What are your A2 plans for 2018?

My plans for the storm are to get a new clutch and possibly 6 speed box fitted. I need the small dent taking out of the roof oh and put hid s back on n it as standard bulbs are pants.
My daily driver akoya needs two smart paint repairs doing on the rear bumper and rear quarter, had a quote but not booked in yet.
Yvonnes White tdi sport has new wheels and tyres going on in the warmer weather.
I also need to fit dash cams that have sat in the box far to long. Cheers mike

Baby Boomer is getting a (already purchased) Bluetooth module to interface with the RNS-E. That's the definite, then early hopefully refresh the suspension as it's shot after 200k+ miles - aside from that, looks like the gearbox might be on its way out so I might join the queue for MYP 'boxes. There is one special which may go on BB, but I'll leave that for the reveal...

Project X is getting electric windows fitted later in the winter, but then nothing until the spring when I'll put the new Pepperpots I've just got from PutYourMittsOn (Thanks dude!) with fresh tyres.

Plans for 2018?

Finish project Violet,
decide to keep it (as usual)
and then decide to sell it (also as usual)
Lose around £2,000 in the process (as usual!)
see what special A2s are around that I can afford,
Spend too much on it,
decide to keep it,
Decide to sell it for less than it cost me (again!)
etc, etc, etc,

Hopefully I will eventually stop doing this and settle down with ONE A2 and keep it (for good this time)

Steve B

There are worse addictions and far more harmful ones. I don wonder some times why on earth I sold my last A2. It owed me £7000 and sold it for £3500.

My plans for Albus are:

Change cambelt (when it stops f'ing raining)
fix drivers door microswitch and related petrol cap issue
replace petrol cap switch
replace knackered glovebox
find and fit boot lid (have all brackets installed but no lid/floor)
either reversing sensors or reversing camera
replacement interior

things may change as Albus is originally a winter replacement for Dawn's summer car (Daihatsu Copen) but we will see how attached she gets and how much she wants doing (but we will keep both cars anyway)

No its a 1.4se! followed all the various fixes on here. Local mech diagnosed egr valve but felt it's a coolant temp sensor error so waiting for that to arrive before we can be sure. Misfire makes the car difficult, nearly impossible, to drive without stalling regularly.

There is little to no point fitting a 6 speed gearbox to the 1.54 petrol engined A2, in 5th gear to revs about right for the amount of power and torque available. You would not get any benefit by gearing up the 5th gear as it would not pull the extra gear

On the misfire front, I chased a mis fire on a 1.4 AUA engine for weeks before i replaced the plug leads (that looked to be perfect) and finally cured it (it was the engine without the individual coil packs)

The other often overlooked cause is the knock sensor which lives at the back of the engine (you have to remove the inlet manifold and then use a mirror to change it)

cheers,

Hi Neil, I've got a spare glovebox in excellent condition, and also two false floors covers (I presume that's what you mean by boot lid), 1 excellent and 1 in need of a clean. Let me know if you're interested, and we can look at price delivery for them.

It looks like I'll be carrying on with the hunt for the source. Replacing the coolant temp sensor brought the misfire back immediately, after I had been running it with the apparently faulty sensor disconnected for a week. It ran silky smooth with the sensor disconnected. Trying to understand how this fits with the misfire as it's definitely temperature related.

Thanks

suggest that you monitor the temp feed to the ECU with the sensor disconnected as that may explain why it ran better with the sensor disconnected

It could however be a default setting used by the ECU if no value is received from the temp sender unit
The ECU uses the engine temp to compute fuel mixture (richer when cold), my guess is that with no signal from the temp sensor it defaults to a cold(ish) map that will allow the engine to run even when cold and also to run when hot, all be it very rich and therefore fuel consumption will be very bad

- Plans for the Cobalt Dream Machine..........

- Do an engine flush and oil change/service etc now.
- Hope above sorts out the slight tapping noise on cold idle (piston slap/tappet noise)
- Fit the brand new twist boot floor carpet.
- Fit the false floor sides, brackets etc and repair the false floor. Or find another?
- Fit the brand new twist rear cup holders.
- Get the whole front repainted as well as back bumper and arches.
- Fit the new alloy rear bumper trim and plastic closer trim.
- Once painted fit the new mudguards.
- Keep searching for mint soft touch climate controls.
- When above found fit the new light switch and electric window switches.
- Source either genuine twist mats or nice after market ones.
- Source an excellent binnacle cover and drivers under dash trim or repair fixing tabs.
- Sort out a hands free/music listening interface another job for Tom so at leats 3 now.

- Here's hopping.

Me?

Look to fix a few issues on the car:

- infamous manifold intake / EGR EML light problem
- few little repairs such as boot light, rattle from seats, refit break glass sensor in boot.
- fully restore red leather, steering wheel handbrake and gear knob. Kit acquired from furniture clinic just waiting on the right time to tackle.
- Finally fix the door lock after 4 attempts!
- Fit xcar link and DAB
- Full mechanical check over - looking at death pipe, tensioner and other work that i now dont trust that a previous mechanic undertook properly or indeed at all.

and big thing would be if I decide that if it IS worth keeping beyond next year then a potential full respray if I'm feeling flush. I had costed up a repair of existing akoya silver but if I'm honest I've never liked the colour with a passion and it may be wiser to reinvest that money towards a colour I do like. Keeping it Audi my initial thoughts may be towards Suzuka Grey but its a long way off.

Towbar! Yes I know. But everyday I get closer to getting that GDW one from eBay.
Anybody out there with a genuine one they don't use?
