Today I.....

As Ian has suggested, the back panel along the inside of the boot needs to be removed to get the battery out without breaking something.

It’s the panel that the boot seal is attached to and is held in place by 3 screws.

Once that is out of the way, the foam comes out, the retaining clamp can come out and the battery will slide forwards to you and out.

You really will make life a lot more simple by taking the panel off ?

thanks for the replies and I feel like I am being so thick as even someone with my less than moderate abilities should still be able to change a battery (I have done it several times before!)
The panel along the edge of the boot is off, and wasn’t against the foam when in place, the foam is fixed solid…push, pull…doesn’t budge at all?!
Have slid the panel as far up as I can get it and have tried to move the battery forward from under the retaining fixings but again that doesn’t budge!

Got it!!! God knows what has been spilt in there at some point but it ‘glued’ the insert to the boot floor!!!

I was just going to say that it might be exactly what you've just found. Glad you've got it out ?

I've seen this before with another one, albeit not quite to that extent. My suspicion is moisture mixing with some chemical released by an aging process of the foam or the boot floor carpet. Keep an eye out for any dampness/condensation in that compartment and if it's happening regularly, suspect the vents underneath the rear bumper - the seals around them perish and let the water through.

Good work! ?

I saw that one, it hasn't even seen a road surface at any point, because there are still the original rubber tags hanging off the tread. Well done on landing it, that was already a good price before you put in an offer! ?

Thanks Ian. I’ve been trying to find one for that sort of money got the last 18 months!

Check out spotted tdi for sale in Bedford bca a little gem with a little paint and wheel refurb ?..I put it in spotted section ..But not everyone looks at this hence this bump ... Yes at one time I wouldn’t have hesitated..I wouldn’t mind betting a certain trader from Bristol will buy it.

just fitted one of these today, bang-on, its only been snapped two years

I have managed to source a used genuine A2 roof racks, sadly not really in a perfect condition. But after a disassembly, thorough cleaning and a little of an elbow grease work :), they look much better, though sadly not yet perfect because plastic covers are a little scratched.
