Today I.....

Today I purchased a new battery and can’t fathom how to change it…why is EVERYTHING with this car so bloody difficult…falling a little more out of love every day…

Undone the bolts that appear to hold the battery in but the plastic trim that is supposed to slide out won’t, battery doesn’t move at all…all the foam insert bits around it are fixed and don’t come out…should have paid the £18 for Halfords to do it

The foam insert does come out, although it might be a bit difficult. If it really doesn't want to move, look along the back wall of the boot under the hatch opening, there are three little covers under which lurk T25 screws. Undo these and pull the sealing strip off the back panel, once the panel is out the the foam will come out. Then you can get proper access to the bottom of the battery retaining clamp to see what's going on.

Charge battery in car or if you need to remove the foam trim then the plastic cover on the inside below the hatch needs to be unscrewed first. Then foam lifts up and battery bracket can be accessed.

Thanks…will have a look another day it’s given me the ‘hump’ and I’m in the wrong frame of mind! Every time I drive or do something with this car I am reminded of the reasons I got rid of the first one I had 16 years ago…

Today I found out that Pepperpots do have a bit of a downside.
You can't see the rotors through them at a glance. ?

After a trip under sudden ridiculous whistly screaming noises yesterday, they turned out to be coming from the right rear disc rusting away after most of it must have stopped making contact a while ago. (And I hadn't even noticed much of a difference other than the handbrake becoming quite weak which I'd attributed to the cables ?‍?)

Is it normal that the pads should stop making contact with most of the disc like this? First car with rear discs for me ?
I'd read about the rears going bad due to corrosion over wear, but this seems a little over the top.
The other side also looks a bit patchy-brownish, but seems like the contact patch there was way better...

I would like the shoddy rust-bucket-look drum brakes of my old BBY back please. ?

Rear calliper as seized and the pad then does not contact the disc the rest is history

Evening all,

Seems to be the time to swap batteries as today see Project 250 have a nice new F19 Silver Dynamic fitted:

It was on the original battery and hasn’t been that reliable over the festive season. Since it’s recent upgrades I felt it totally deserved a fresh new battery.

Kind regards,

Tom

hi changed my battery today, varta f18 silver dynamic,
i wonder if its the original 07/2002 battery

Is that diesel car?
Five star batteries in Rainham is tops. They do look after their customers. We have been buying batteries for years from them. They used to based on Barking before. Check them out next time??

...Alison was collected from a very helpful Garage; I noticed cars getting rather close sometimes. Then the flashing Pre Heat Warning of Doom appeared.

Oh dear. Intermittent Brake Lamp fault. Booked into the garage- that has a bloody long waiting list- and they helped me out by replacing Alison's Brake Pedal Switch.

Also, the Vacuum Pump Hose that I noticed was looking rather suspect was attended to; no longer a heart in mouth situation when shunting; parking on inclines.

???

So…the foam insert is fixed solid, no movement at all regardless of how hard I pull!!
Have managed to get the plastic with the securing bolts in to slide to the top but doesn’t come out as not enough clearance between battery and foam insert?!
But the battery appears to be stuck solid to the well of the car…

if you slide the battery back a bit, the front of the battery is lodged under a retaining lip, it should just lift out with the sliding panel
