Webasto! Why won’t it work on its own…. VCDS enabled??

We also need the same Group 016 from an 00005 car, with a non functional Webasto.
More than one example would be a big advantage.
The difference will, , tell us what is preventing it from running. My, (virtual), money is on Idle Speed.
Mac.

Highly unlikely to be idle speed as the ecu will hold 925 RPM unless extreme load is applied to the point that the ecu cannot maintain the 925 RPM

I will try looking at the group 16 numbers in my BHC (non-Webasto but proven code 0002-requiring electronic heater) tomorrow morning in code 0002 and code 0005 in case there is anything obvious. Using my VAG401. Hopefully useful info available.

Hi Mac,

I’ll report my findings after I temporarily switch back to 00005 in the morning. I know the Webasto doesn’t fire up when coded as 00005 but works perfectly when reverted to 00002.

Project EUD has been utterly brilliant the last couple of mornings and evenings, defrosted the vehicle exactly as it should.

Kind regards,

Tom

Understood but that is bucking the trend found over the last couple of days
At the end of the day if they are working on coding 00005 then great but it’s not making sense that yours are working on 00005 and others checked are only working on 00002

Get back to me on this thread so we keep all the info in the same place please once you have confirmed with vcds

Cheers. Paul

Side note on the dual map 0002 vs 0005 question, with regard to the 6-speed box question.

Have noticed over the past 48 hours that having active electric cabin heat in a BHC is great, but means that a 0005-coded Tdi 75 that can push a PTW in summer weather day in day out is now a bit strained with 6th around 2000rpm when set up in 0002 - a few horses short of being able to really make it move. Probably confirming the crowd hypothesis that a PTW is better with a 90 generally, but also proving that the 0005 map (in a good Tdi75) is PTW-capable (as in my case).

My project car's recent iteration with a different ECU, ASZ injectors / hybrid turbo and NTG box is genuinely rapid in 6th above 60mph - I found I need to be a bit careful as it is so smooth that the needle winds round the clock without much warning. Combination of lower gearing and different map in the 1800-2500rpm region due to the slightly slower but bigger eventual turbo spool and pulls right round to near 5k. Feels very linear consequently but less punchy in that Tdi way conventionally.

The 00002 is only a partial remap the full remap being on 00005
Hence the inability to pull 6th gear as well when codes to 00002 as opposed to 00005

Do you mean the pump or the webasto? The pump is just pos and negative, the output from the webasto is a positive output and the other wire is earth, it doesn’t matter which way round the go. The webasto is a completely different animal, there are several different types, some are manual control ie just connect up a + to pin 1 to start, these were fitted to rover 75s, and some Land Rover, then the others are can bus driven.
seems the canbus ones are coded for different manufacturers, so Audi, bmw and Range Rover aren’t interchangeable.
you can buy a driver on eBay to run the bus ones that create a signal to fire. I bought one of these but couldn’t get any to work, so I suspect it may be faulty, but then again it could be the heaters I have are duff, who knows!😱
Ive spent hours playing with these things, hence starting this post as it’s been a frustrating and interesting journey so far.
i meant the webasto

I was on the same page, let me know how you get on

We took the thermistor off the circuit board today, it appears to be giving the correct reading according to that posted on here 12k ? it changed with heat so it looks like its a fault in the circuit board

Check the twin towers for connection compound on base of the board.

What am i looking ? for I presume the two blue components

Now that my webasto works, which is brilliant……I’m amazed at how often I hear it running. A 3G mile drive last night and I heard is several times. Thermostat and temperature gauge both good, seems as soon as it drops to 80 ish it’ll fire up. No noticeable difference to mpg, if anything it’s actually better!

If you can keep engine temp above 80 then your on the beat or next to beat fuelling maps there is not a lot between the last two fuelling maps. Hence the fuel used by the webesto is compensated by the fuel saved on the engine as long as there is a long enough run as the webasto will use a fair amount of fuel to heat the engine to 80
If you were only doing a few miles then the engine savings would be less than the webasto uses. More miles and it balances out
