A2 Door Cracking

Hey guy's, i took my car to the local dealers and a woman drove it into the service area where some bloke had a look at it and soon after she came back saying they cannot see anything wrong with it. So i showed her the cracks again and she then said she would call the service guy to come and take another look at what i was trying to describe. I showed him where the cracks were and he said "oh that's nothing, it would be alright and that the only thing they would do is put a metal plate on the back and that should sort it but he would have to speak to his manager to see if they could take on the work". So we went back inside to speak to his manager and they went through my service history book with a fine tooth comb, about where it was bought, how much mileage was on it, when it was serviced and how much warranty was still on it. As they were discussing this over the phone the lady who took my car into the service area printed off three pages which had the proceedure for dealing with the recall of A2's that had this door problems. It had what they call a 200% parts and labour fix where they supply and fit all this at no cost to me, and there is also a good will gesture where i think they may ask the customer to pay for some of it. They had all the codes for all the parts that was needed to do the job, but unfortunately i didn't get that so at the end of the conversation they said they are going to call me tomorrow to let me know when it will be booked in to complete the work, and there was no resistance from them at all.
One thing i do know is that they do know about this problem but may well want to get out of it, so just be persistant and let them know its a common fault. Hope this helps.

door cracking

I had this problem couple of years ago on the wifeys A2,stripped the door panel down and found that the guide for the hinge had come loose(as you open the door different stages of opening just open or wide open) it looked like if it was left the guide would of come completly free and could of pierced the door from the inside so you must get it sorted and be persistent as it will come loose eventually.I tightend the star bolts up and greased the guideway and no probs since the only real hassle being stripping the door

My wife's A2 (driver's door) developed a cracking noise last year. Had it fixed under warranty from Aberdeen Audi, although the car was purchased from Carlisle Audi. They didn't have a clue what they were doing. The first repair they did - it cracked louder than it did originally! Eventually sorted. Not sure what's involved - but apparently they used some sort of bonding adhesive as they had the car overnight - to allow it to cure. If I find out they've used Araldite!

Although you might have an AUDIBLE cracking problem, the issue covered by the FOC repair is a PHYSICAL cracking problem.

The two are not interconnected, although it is possible to have both present. Audible cracking alone will not be fixed free of charge.

Cheers,

Mike

Got my car booked in for Monday at a body shop Audi use. They say the work will take at least three days, so they have supplied me with a courtesy car. I await the outcome

Sojah if your booked in this means the work is getting done, depending on there work load they could have it done in 2 days ;)

Hi Phil, i dropped off my car yesterday evening to get the doors repaired, (I miss Darmel already :( ). City Centre Car Care Co Ltd in Birmingham which is just down the road from me is taking on the work but have asked me for some insight as to what needs to be done. They said that Audi have supplied them with all the bits to get this job done but they have never taken on any A2 door work before. I had a look around their garage and all the cars in there bar one were Audi's, it looks so professional in there i know she's in good hands :D. They said two days to complete the work but im in no rush just yet to get her back as a trip down to Kent to see family this weekend doesn't mean i have to trouble my beloved ;).

Well after a week of not sure if we can do that from the dealer, i had had enough so i phoned head office and asked them to speak to the warranty guy at the dealership and what would you know 5 minutes later i get a call saying we will do the doors, valet your car give you a courtesy car and do the mot for free whilst its in!! result

Top front door hinge bolt loose

I've noticed wind noise and on inspecting the front driver's door have found that the top bolt on the door (not the frame) is slightly loose - if I move the door the hinge moves on the bolt - and I noticed that some thin packing between the hinge and the door has slipped down.

I also have a short crack from the top corner of this hinge - about 3mm long. Could these be related and should I try to get the dealer to at least tighten the bolt FOC if not fix the crack?

To tighten, it needs a large torex "spanner" plus I guess a special tool is needed to get access in between the door hinge, so a dealer job might be required. I can't see this taking very long. But would be interested to know of the cost of the torex and tool if this is likely to be cheaper than a dealer adjustment.

I paid £25 for a Snap On torex tool to tighten my door hinges as and when they need adjusting, I dont know if this is the tool you mean?.

If you have a crack on the door they should repair your door and do your hinge for free

sounds like it. Thanks for the quick reply.

Do you know the size the bit it is and is the lever (arm) bought separately or is it an all in one tool specifically for tightening door bolts?

It's the torx nut in the photo in this thread:

Its a T45 which is the largest I happen to have :)

I used the bit gripped by an adjustable spanner to tighten the hinge bolt. Looks better and firm but needs a test drive to assess wind noise.

Nottingham Audi

Say it's just a customer issue if wind catches the door and cracks it ! Not aware of recall codes.

Any advice?

I've been in touch with Ecoangel, but in this case, Audi UK might not be able to help, as the car in question is a personal import, not an authorised one.

They'll doubtless put Nottingham Audi straight though - this is not caused by a gust of wind!

Cheers,

Mike

If he did get knocked back by Audi, what would the cost to him be Mike if was to get the bits himself ? But i can't see what the differance is between us buying a car with no Audi service history or buying a car from the trader, the car is still an Audi A2 with this problem

Phil

The difference is that all 'normal' UK cars are covered by Audi UK under the 12 year anti corrosion/perforation warranty and 1.2TDi's are not.

The cost in parts is about £35 per door, but then there's paint, bonding and labour to take into consideration.

Cheers,

Mike
