Aluminium Fatigue

wait until you have one with the issue and then worry about it, really. It is not that common!

Bret

Sadly, within last month I took a look at 5 different A2s (petrol and TDI) and all had these cracks. Though, this should be a good argument for lowering the price, because all owners were very surprised, when I have shown them the cracks.

I've seen them very rarely indeed in the A2's I've looked at and the German forum is nowhere near overrun with these.

Strange.

Very interesting thread to say the least, Ive not read it all but I get the jist of whats going on. any updates guys???
Ive not had a look at mine because I didnt know about the problem but wil look tomorrow.

Sarge spotted these cracks on both of my front door hinge areas the other week :(
@Brett - I wonder if it might not be something to do with the appalling road surface quality in the UK compared to the continent?

Ive just taken this photo, looks like its happening to mine, drivers door, passenger door looks ok.

Speaking to Audi Bolton as I type, she vaguely remembers this problem a couple of years ago and is struggling to find the "good will" agreement...............eh????????
I will update as and when guys.

update.
The lady at Bolton has called me back and said that they will honour the repair, FOC if the car has been serviced by Audi all its life. I mentioned this site and she Knows Mike, even said what a lovely car he has :).
When I mentioned Mike, her attitude changed and she is kindly going to contact a more senior member of staff to try and get this sorted. Fingers crossed.......................................

Bolton Audi have just rang me back to say they will honour the warranty and do the repair FOC and also let me have a courtesy car for as long as it takes so good result all around.

Good news, well done. Another example of what a great community the A2OC is and that nobody should accept being fobbed off by statements from delaerships that this repair is time barred, or theres a mileage limit or a full dealer history is necessary. All a load of cobblers. Its a free repair courtesy of Audi following the great work Mike did a few years back.

Just a downside here lads, Mike thinks it will be the Audenshaw branch of SKF and I have read some damming reports about their workmanship, cause for concern me thinks :(

I checked my doors this morning and both sides have cracking. As I was working at Manchester Audi today I booked it in they have sent a claim off to the warranty dept to try and get the work done. I will let you know what happens.

This sounds good. Cheers folks. I've got this problem too and would like it fixed, as would every perfectionist! :)

I have a crack on the passenger side - not enough light to see the driver's side clearly - so that's another job on the list then...

Anyone had any experience with Northampton Audi and this problem? my doors are both going, however i'm out of warranty 52plate and my cars done over 100k does this effect the goodwill situation??

OK, time to wake this one up again.

Thanks to Sarge (under whose care my car now currently is for brakes and indicator relay - thanks Sarge!) I've learnt that I have the cracking above the door hinge.

I'm armed with Mike's bulletin wording from 2008/9 (#411) and also the fix instructions.

The question now is whether or not the goodwill fix is still available based on a) the 3 or 4 years since Audi published the guidance and b) the fact that my car is now 10 and a half years old?

Whilst I'll be on the phone in the morning, what do the collective reckon my chances are?

Cheers,

Simon

Afternoon All,

I'm afraid to say I found the cracks on both my front doors whilst cleaning it yesterday :( Car is booked in at Listers Audi Stratford tomorrow for them to have a look. What are the chances of me getting this repaired under the 12 year corrosion warranty? My car is 2004 53 Reg. Also how long does the repair take?

Thanks

Keith

If your car has full Audi dealer service history then the changes are a lot better than if it hasn`t been to audi for a few years.
