In warrenty, you should get the new designed doors (means, I hope they will deliver the new version only!) without problems.

I heard, that maybe the new doors are sold out at the moment (in Germany) and it could take some time, to fabrikate new ones but this is not confirmed and other people does get new doors this week, so let's see...

Erstens, do you know if cars not in warranty have had the doors replaced with the new design?

Yes I know. Some did got new doors. But this does not mean anything yet. It is not simple yet as Audi does not tell everyone to come in and pick up new doors. It is hard work and until today everyone has to go to the dealer himselfe and ask for getting this problem fixed. Then you maybe direktly ask the audi customer support and then you may have luck and get new doors. But I hope this will change soon and everyone gets new doors. Some two months ago or so, I and two other A2 drivers visited a verry big Audi dealer and told them the problme. Oder of us three have been there before allready. Thay picked up the one with still in Audi service and tryed a reclamation only on this one.
My car is 7 Years old and not in audi service anymore so I do the service myselfe oder let do whats necessary in a small shop.
So I will try to ask for new doors next time, I did not before because I waited for some results we now have. Othe problem is, that my doors are with Soundsystem. So each front door is 10 pounds heavier than the normal A2 door!!!! This could be the most heavy doors ever;) :D And this could be a problem to get new doors. But the crack was before I did the soundsystem, I am shure. But anyway I have a Woofer in the inner Doorboard (the alunium one) and this is unusual. So I would do some remount and mounting myselfe.

Repair-solution without new doors!

As two members of the German Forum told us, Audi will inform their dealers in 8th week 2008 about the repair-method without using new doors!
I will wait for that.

See my other thread - "Jeremy Hicks", which contains a full copy of the letter sent to him (for those that don't know, he is the director of Audi UK).

It will be interesting to get Audi UKs answer on the subject and we can then either put the subject to be, or escalate things.

A repair method using the original doors is entirely possible, assuming that the newly designed hinge area is welded in place of the cracked section. It will obviously bring down costs, and may well be applied to all cars suffering the fault.

Cheers,

Mike

You should read (translate) the last post:
http://www.a2-freun.de/forum/showthread.php?p=664096#post664096
google translates it to (with my help, as I can :D ):
Today, I was at my Audi dealer and gave (showed) him the crack in the driver's door. The case was recorded and ten minutes later, I received an expression (print out) of the Audi repair the solution shown in February should be carried out. It is the upper hinge exchanged and the hinge area coverage assembles the crack purpose.
There will be no more doors with all the associated problems (see above) exchanged! The whole thing makes my opinion a very good impression.
Now it is only until February to have patience. Incidentally, according to my information, the customer adviser hinges not on suspicion exchanged;
Ie (that means,) For a replacement must definitely cracks can be seen. But also vehicles be affected in future (should get) repaired on fairness .

Interesting... I never got round to getting to the body repair centre for a new claim the other week, I am thinking of heading to the birmingham audi tomorrow to see where the nearest repair centre is to try a claim... that's if I get up early! ;)

There is a part-number for the repair-kit (rep-solution) for the left door: 8Z0898021
But still not available and also the price is unknown. (I hope, for us it is free). :)

New front doors.

I finally got my a2 back today after a month in the body shop having new front doors fitted under warranty. They do seem to be an improvement on the originals. I took mine to my dealer about a week before ther end of my original warranty but it didnt seem to cause a problem. I was just on the verge of inhaling and getting ready to throw the toys out of the pram but I didnt need to as the just agreed straight away to the claim.

Update

There is a part-number for the repair-kit (rep-solution) for the left door: 8Z0898021
But still not available and also the price is unknown. (I hope, for us it is free). :)

Cost of this "Reparatursatz linke Tür" (Repair-kit, left door) in Germany : 19,64 Euro incl. MwSt (inkl. 19% tax)

Part-number, right side: 8Z0898022 No price yet, but I bet, it will be the same as left:D

Have arranged to take the A2 into the Audi Structral Aluminium Specialist Repair Centre, in Bristol on Wednesday, to lodge a claim under the 3 year warranty (two months left ).
Both doors are now exhibiting the problem so it will be interesting to see how Audi manage the claim and whether they will replace or repair the doors.
I will let you know the outcome.

Good news Colin.

I am confident of some significant movement from Audi UK in the next 6 weeks or so, but can't say any more than that at the moment.

Cheers,

Mike

Another car door fatigue crack - UK 1.2TDI

Finally checked, found n/s door cracked above hinge (about 1.2cm long) and took car into local dealer for claim.

"Not seem anything like this before" quote from technician as he whips out camera and expertly photographs area. "We'll call you when we've got OK to fix it - will need new door, so can't do this week.................."

I told him this is a well known problem and that there's a bulletin about that calls up a fix.

As mine's a 2005 car, even though it's lhd and bought new from Berlin dealer, warranty shouldn't be an issue.

I await developments.................

Erling

The problem is:

This is NOT a well known problem. Only you in this forum here and in the german A2 forum know about. But this is only a few A2 ownes worldwide. All others don't know thay have the crack, because they have never recognised it.

Phone call form Audi UK

Did anyone else receive a phone call from Audi UK?

I had a call this morning redarding the fatigue to the doors and they are going to resolve the issue, parts should be here (uk) late Feb - early March.

Does this fix still need the door's to be replaced and half the side of the car to be painted/blended in ?

If so, how much of the car is actually painted ?

Cheers. :)

I will be able to make an announcement on this subject very shortly. Please hold on a little longer, I think it will be worth the wait.

Cheers,

Mike
