Oh where do I start!!!

On the way to the piccys tonight to see the Matrix, just going round a roundabout, when the tail end got pushed round and the next thing we were on our roof.[30]

I was a passenger and didn't know what the hell was going on. Kim just glimpsed the guy swerving from the centre of the roundabout to an exit. She could see what was going to happen but by the time she opened her mouth, he'd hit us and we were on our way over.

Luckily we both managed to scramble free under our own steam. The lady in the car behind had rung for poilce & ambulance before we were even out of the A2. Kim was whisked off to hospital as her shoulder was bruised quite badly by the seatbelt. I only had minor cuts to my hands where I'd released the seatbelt and fallen into glass. I followed on up to the hospital when all was dealt with at the scene. We were both checked over and pronounced battered & bruised but no more.

Now the punch line. The guy who hit us was over the limit[3] We have 3 witnesses from 3 different cars who all saw it happen. They say he was all over the place before he hit us and then he just swerved into us clipping our car just behind the offside rear wheel. He was arrested and carted off:D

The car itself looked quite sorry for itself but the main structure and shape of the car was still solid. Nothing had bent or crumpled. The roof was smashed, as were most windows and there is some serious paintwork damage on the top of the nearside doors where it slid along the road for a second or so. Time will tell whether it a write off or not.[29]

I had my digital camera brought to the scene and have taken some shots for insurance purposed. I'll get them sorted tomorrow/today (Wed) and post a couple of pics.

Hi Rob,

I'm really sorry to hear about your accident. But the main thing is that you're both ok. Did the guy have insurance? Either way, I'm sure you'll have a nice pristine A2 again before long - if he was over the limit, the law will be on your side in the end.

Good you're both okay. The car is just material damage. Bet they can fix it though...

TBH Stuart, I didn't talk to the guy myself to find out if he had insurance. He came over to us and I could smell the beer on his breath. I thought my best response was to walk away. Any other reaction would probably have seen me being arrested as well.

I have his name and address so I'm just going to pass it all over this morning to our insurance.

[17] That is some accident and a sad sight to see...

Rob - how did the open sky cope with the impact? Was it still intact or was there shattered glass everywhere?

I believe the 2 moving parts of the roof shattered - not sure about the final piece of glass which meets the boot. Luckily, the sunshade was closed across the open-sky, containing all the glass against the road.

Rob. Very sorry to see the damage, the main thing is that you are Ok. It looks as though the safety features worked. I certainly don't feel like adding a humourous comment to this one. It's a good job you dudn't punch him. Maybe some other time.

Good thing you are both OK... I hope all will be well with the insurance company.
And a Ford Fiasco (Fiesta) to boot....:-( (I always had trouble´s with Ford´s in 2 of the 3 accidents I was in)

Bye, Frido

Sorry to read and this and see the results. At least you know the driver. My last car was smashed by a joyrider who drove off. I had to claim on my insurance to the princely sum of £2500, this morning the post came - increase in my insurance of £200.

Ever seen the underside of an A2? Very streamlined.

Sorry but my view is it's happened and there's b****r all we can do to change the fact. Might as well look on the bright side (as someone from Monty Python once said). I look on it that we weren't unlucky to be in the accident but very lucky to be able to walk away from it. Who knows what state we'd be in now if it had been the Punto or Kims old Fiesta.

Seeing as luck is on our side, we've broken with tradition and brought some lottery tickets. If our numbers come up, we'll be the ones in the RS6 and the first rounds on us.

Rob (and Kim)

Sorry to hear and see this guys-not nice at all. Glad you are ok-that's always the main thing.

So many if's and but's-if I had done this then, left a bit later etc all you can say is "look on the bright side".

Hope to hear what happens to the stupid sod who was driving the Fiesta-a minimum 1 year ban anyway if he's up for drink driving-and in your case a lot more I hope.

Take it easy guys.

Rob and Kim, glad you're both OK. Shame to see the A2 like that, but you're safety is the main thing. I don't think I would have been as restrained as you....

All the best

Ade

Thanx for all the words Guys, much appreciated.

We will hopefully hear about the car tomorrow, whether its a write off or a repair. If it is written off and we do go for another A2, at least this time we'll get the met paint/CC offer as this seems to have an infinite lifespan.

TBH haven't really thought that far ahead yet Ade.
