Strangely, it was the photos of your car that persuaded me to go for the pentamerical alloys and the beige interior. I hope your insurance company comes up with a decent deal to keep you in the A2 fraternity...

After todays social, I am more convinced that we should be getting a replacement new A2 in place of our injured one. The final word should come tomorrow about whether they are going to write it off or repair it.

Perfect scenario would be write off and a replacement where we can add a couple of extras over the old car such as 6 disc & CC.

Does anyone know if this is standard practice with in the insurance industry? Replace a written off car, like for like.

A very poorly A2 at present! :(

I already suspected that.

The roof is an important part of the spaceframe. If the roof is damaged that means that the SF has to be repaired and recertified. Quite an expensive procedure.

Yip, on most insurance deals you get like for like if your car gets totalled in the first year... and as your car was only month's old I'd imagine that is what will happen... How exactly they work this out one wonders. I have never ever listed ALL my options and their worth when taking out car insurance. So they just give you a quote based on a standard A2 SE or whatever I suspect. So what about the X thousand of pounds worth of options come your situation? Interesting. I guess you need to show exactly how much you paid and what exact options you had and they will give you money to buy exact same spec again... so "extra" extras will be for your own pocket?

The basis of any insurance is that when they settle you will no worse or better off than you were before the incident causing the claim. They will argue (mostly) but so can you. One of the arguments could be that you were not insured for the full amount if there are undeclared extras, but it is possible that these extras are salvageable, if they claim you are not insured for them, then they should return them to you from the wreck, e.g.spare wheel. You own them, not the ins. co.If they have been removed from the wreck, you have a claim for theft. don't forget to claim against the other driver for un-insured losses NCB, etc. Most decent ins cos will pursue this for you, if not your motor club will (AA, RAC etc.). don't forget to claim for loss of hobby, stress, etc. etc.It can be a struggle because they hope you will give up after the prevarication (especially Zurich) but go for it, it only costs a stamp each time.
Persistence will prevail, just make sure that you are the persistent party. I am sure we all wish you well with it.

We paid £14360 for the car after discounts and told our insurance it was worth £15000. I've never been asked about any extras factory fitted to a car - only aftermarket modifications.

There must be something in the air in my department at work. The tally for written off cars is now 3 in 2 months after the apprentice totalled his Renault5 GT Turbo yesterday.

Friday 13th next week. I'm going to walk everywhere.

A2 update. It's write off!![29][24]

We're sad but also happy as this is the best outcome for us. Hopefully, early next week we shall be arranging for our new A2 to be ordered [25] (courtesy of the insurance.)

For info, the car is written off if the cost of repairs is over 60% of the value of the car. In our case this meant a 60% value of approx £8500. The repairs were quoted as about £9500.[13][13]
